How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Canonical edge moments are not bounded on H(curl)
Statement refuted
For a fixed tetrahedral edge , the canonical edge-circulation functional extends to a bounded linear functional on .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: Countable Choice for the weak-derivative uniqueness convention in The real H(curl) graph space on a polyhedron, the graph norm on , a fixed oriented mesh edge , and its canonical circulation degree of freedom from Lowest-order Whitney and Nedelec de Rham spaces.
Countable Choice is the explicit assumption in the real H(curl) graph-space definition; the counterexample uses no stronger choice principle. (The Axiom of Countable Choice ())
The graph norm is . (The real H(curl) graph space on a polyhedron)
The canonical edge degree of freedom is for smooth . (Lowest-order Whitney and Nedelec de Rham spaces)
Along a parameterized segment, the integral of the derivative is the endpoint difference. (If is differentiable with integrable then ; and a bounded derivative makes Lipschitz)
For , there is a smooth -valued function equal to one on and supported in . (A smooth bump between concentric Euclidean balls)
Counterexample
By [F4] with and , choose with and support in the unit ball. Choose small enough that . Define on and . Then distributionally because distributional mixed derivatives commute, so [F1] gives . A change of variables on bounds .
By [F3] along , for every such . If a bounded extension existed, [F2] would give , which tends to zero by step 1.1, contradicting the fixed value . Thus the edge moment is not bounded on the energy space; canonical interpolation cannot be applied to arbitrary H(curl) fields by these moments alone.
Depends on
- The real H(curl) graph space on a polyhedron
- Lowest-order Whitney and Nedelec de Rham spaces
- If $f : [a,b] \to \mathbb{R}^m$ is differentiable with integrable $f'$ then $\int_a^b f' = f(b)-f(a)$; and a bounded derivative makes $f$ Lipschitz
- The Axiom of Countable Choice ($\mathrm{AC}_\omega$)
- A smooth bump between concentric Euclidean balls

49 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
