How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Average-cost fixed-length codes and operational DMC capacity
Definition
Fix a finite DMC and cost model from Finite DMC with a nonnegative input cost and feasible budget, with feasible budget . A length-, -message code from Fixed-length codes for a finite DMC is average-cost feasible if A rate is average-error achievable under budget if there is a sequence of such codes, for all sufficiently large , whose average errors from Average and maximal error of a fixed-length code tend to zero and satisfy . The operational cost-constrained capacity is the supremum of these rates.
For an input probability vector , define its expected cost as in Finite DMC with a nonnegative input cost and feasible budget. The cost-constrained information capacity is where and the unconstrained DMC information capacity use natural-log nats as in Single-letter information capacity of a finite DMC and The natural logarithm as the inverse of the exponential function. All rates use natural-log nats (The natural logarithm as the inverse of the exponential function). This definition uses a supremum; attainment is proved separately.

10 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
