How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
General Poisson manifolds from bivector fields
Definition
A real Poisson algebra is a commutative unital algebra over equipped with an -bilinear bracket that is skew-symmetric, satisfies the Jacobi identity, and is a derivation in each entry. The algebra-over-a-commutative-ring convention is the one in Algebras over a commutative ring, central structure maps, and algebra homomorphisms.
Let be a smooth -manifold (Smooth manifolds and their smooth charts). A smooth bivector datum on assigns to each smooth coordinate chart smooth functions on its coordinate domain, with . On an overlap with coordinates , require the contravariant tensor transformation law For smooth functions on a coordinate domain, the associated local bracket is A bivector datum is Poisson when this local bracket satisfies the Jacobi identity on every coordinate domain. A Poisson manifold is a smooth manifold with a Poisson bivector datum. The next proposition proves that the local brackets agree on overlaps, are biderivations, and satisfy Jacobi exactly when the Schouten self-bracket vanishes; it justifies this definition as a global Poisson bracket.
Here , and repeated coordinate indices in tensor formulas are summed. To fix the Schouten convention needed here, put For , the local components of its Schouten–Nijenhuis self-bracket are . In this pair, means that these coefficients vanish in every chart.
No nondegeneracy assumption is imposed on . In particular, the zero bivector and bivectors of nonconstant rank are permitted. No global frame of the tangent bundle is chosen.

6 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
