How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Strictly hyperbolic conservation systems and characteristic families
Definition
Let , let be open, and let be (Continuously differentiable maps, local inverses, and local diffeomorphisms; the convention is that of Euclidean maps and diffeomorphisms). The one-dimensional conservation system with state domain is where is the conserved state and its flux. Its flux Jacobian is . The system is strictly hyperbolic on an open set if, for every , has distinct real eigenvalues, written in increasing order . An th characteristic family on is a right-eigenvector field with . It is genuinely nonlinear on if is nowhere zero there; after shrinking its sign is constant. It is linearly degenerate on if throughout . Rescaling by a nonzero constant changes the wave-strength parameter but not the family.
For , a locally bounded map is a distributional weak solution with initial data if for every vector test function and in as . A Riemann initial datum is the step for and for .
In this weak-solution clause, is required to be Lebesgue measurable and , so the test-function integral is defined. Local boundedness gives .

7 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
