How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

The phase-bordered periodic-orbit BVP residual

Definition

Let f:U→Rd be an autonomous C2 vector field on an open set U, with the autonomous ODE convention of Autonomous ordinary differential equations and the C2 map convention of Ck Euclidean maps and diffeomorphisms. Let ψ(x)=c⊤(x−xref) be an affine phase function with c≠0. On the scaled interval s∈[0,1], introduce the augmented state u=(x,θ)∈U×(0,∞) and vector field

f~(x,θ)=(θf(x),0).

For endpoint states u0=(x0,θ0) and u1=(x1,θ1), define the boundary map

B(u0,u1)=(x1−x0,ψ(x0))∈Rd+1.

This is a square nonlinear BVP in the sense of Square nonlinear two-point boundary-value problems and endpoint residuals: its state dimension and number of boundary equations are both d+1. The period coordinate is constant along solutions because its derivative is zero. The common-tube differentiability of the exact flow is given by Initial-data sensitivity of an ODE flow on a common compact tube, and monodromy/Floquet terminology follows Local periodic-orbit, Poincare-return, and Floquet data.

Whenever the exact autonomous flow ϕt exists on the required interval, the associated phase-bordered shooting residual is

G(x,θ)=(ϕθ(x)−x,ψ(x))∈Rd+1,θ>0.

It is defined only for initial data whose flow exists through time θ. Phase transversality at a nonstationary periodic point x∗ means c⊤f(x∗)≠0. Neither existence of a zero nor invertibility of its Jacobian is part of this definition.

22 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
