How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Recursive structural causal models on finite DAGs
Definition
Fix a finite DAG and a specified topological ordering (every arrow points from an earlier to a later vertex). Partition into observed vertices and latent vertices . For each , specify a measurable state space , a measurable exogenous space , a jointly measurable structural function and an exogenous random element with values in . Here ; the empty product is a singleton. The model is Markovian when the finite family is mutually independent. No parametric form or distributional truth is asserted. Correlated disturbances may be represented by adding their common causes as latent vertices, after which the exogenous family in the expanded model is required to be mutually independent.
Recursion in the topological order defines the endogenous random elements uniquely by . The full-joint law is the law of ; the observed law is its marginal law on . An observed-only DAG factorization is asserted only when or when an additional stated latent-variable condition proves it.
For and a value , means replace only the equations indexed by by the constants , leaving every other structural function and every exogenous law unchanged. Recursion then defines counterfactual values for every vertex ; the interventional law is their joint law. The response map is jointly measurable, by induction through the finite topological order and joint measurability of each . This permits evaluation at a random treatment value, such as . When , write for the response under . If the factual treatment is , then on recursion gives for every vertex .

12 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
