How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Bayes-reversed transition kernels for a diffusion

Definition

Let T>0, let pt be a strictly positive probability density on Rd for each t∈[0,T], and let q(s,x;t,y) be a jointly Borel, strictly positive transition density for 0≤s<t≤T. Assume the marginal identity pt(y)=∫Rdps(x)q(s,x;t,y) dx and the Chapman–Kolmogorov identity q(s,x;t,y)=∫Rdq(s,x;r,z)q(r,z;t,y) dz whenever s<r<t. For 0≤u<v≤T define Ku,v(y,A)=∫ApT−v(x)q(T−v,x;T−u,y) dxpT−u(y)(A⊆Rd Borel), and set Ku,u(y,⋅)=δy. This is the Bayes-reversed transition probability kernel from reverse time u to reverse time v; its source state y is the forward-time state at T−u and its output x is the state at T−v.

Verification

1.1F2F1

For fixed u<v and Borel A, the integrand 1A(x)pT−v(x)q(T−v,x;T−u,y) is nonnegative and jointly Borel in (y,x). Tonelli's parameter-integral clause [F2] makes its integral Borel in y; division by the positive Borel function pT−u(y) preserves measurability. For each fixed y the numerator defines a measure in A by countable additivity of the Lebesgue integral.

2.1F1step 1.1

Taking A=Rd in the formula gives Ku,v(y,Rd)=pT−u(y)/pT−u(y)=1 by the marginal identity, so each Ku,v(y,⋅) is a probability measure. The identity kernel at u=v is also a probability kernel.

3.1F2step 1.1∎

If u<v<w, Tonelli and the two density ratios give ∫Kv,w(x,A)Ku,v(y,dx)=∫ApT−w(z)∫q(T−w,z;T−v,x)q(T−v,x;T−u,y) dx dzpT−u(y). The inner integral is q(T−w,z;T−u,y) by forward Chapman–Kolmogorov, so the expression is Ku,w(y,A). If two adjacent times coincide, composition with the identity kernel gives the same equality.

10 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
