How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Atoroidal non-Seifert knot exteriors have the required topological hypotheses
Statement
Assume the Axiom of Choice. Let be a smooth knot in that is not ambient isotopic to the standard unknot, and assume its compact exterior is atoroidal and not Seifert-fibered. Then every smoothly embedded -sphere in bounds an embedded -ball in , and there is no smoothly embedded disk in whose interior misses and whose boundary is essential in .

Facts & Assumptions
Given: Full AC, a nontrivial smooth knot exterior , and the assumptions that it is atoroidal and not Seifert-fibered.
Full AC is The Axiom of Choice.
Incompressibility, Seifert fibrations, and JSJ systems defines irreducible to mean every interior -sphere bounds a -ball, incompressible boundary to mean no compressing disk with essential boundary, atoroidal to mean every incompressible torus is boundary-parallel, and Seifert-fibered to mean decomposed into circles with the specified fibered-solid-torus local models.
Full AC implies countable choice by restricting a choice function to the given countable family of nonempty sets. This supplies the countable-choice premise of the chosen smooth tubular-exterior definition, not a premise of the topological vocabulary in [F1]. The Axiom of Countable Choice (), Knot exterior
Nontrivial knot exteriors are irreducible and boundary-incompressible proves that every knot exterior with non-unknot core is irreducible and has incompressible boundary under AC.
Proof
Full AC is exactly the choice hypothesis of [F2] and supplies countable choice for the chosen exterior data by [L1]. The supplied atoroidality and non-Seifert assumptions have the exact meanings in [F1]; they impose additional hypotheses on the exterior and do not remove either conclusion of [F2].
Apply [F2] to the stated nontrivial knot and its chosen compact exterior. It gives irreducibility and absence of a compressing disk on the boundary; by [F1], these are exactly the two conclusions asserted here.

23 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
