How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The Khovanov Frobenius TQFT respects the Bar-Natan relations
Statement
Let be the preadditive monoidal category of cobordisms before the S, T, and four-tube relations are imposed, and let be its quotient by those relations. Suppose is an additive symmetric monoidal functor to finite free graded abelian groups with all integral linear maps, graded by homogeneous degree, with a circle sent to , a cup to , a cap to , a merge pair of pants to , and a split pair of pants to . Then every sphere component is sent to zero, every disjoint torus component acts by multiplication by , and the two sides of the four-tube relation induce the same map. Therefore factors through an additive symmetric monoidal functor on the preadditive quotient category .

Facts & Assumptions
Given: The preadditive monoidal category and the algebra with the stated structure maps.
Khovanov Frobenius algebra and cube of resolutions gives the free basis , the unit, counit, multiplication, and comultiplication formulas in the statement, and verifies the Frobenius identities on that basis.
The Bar-Natan cobordism category defines by gluing and disjoint union, and defines by imposing the sphere, torus, and four-tube relations in every surrounding cobordism.
Proof
By the assumed functoriality of , gluing cobordisms is sent to composition of maps and disjoint union is sent to tensor product. Thus the only additional relations to check before factoring through the quotient are the three local relations in [F2].
A sphere is evaluated by , and . A torus is evaluated by ; on the generator , , then , and . These are exactly the S and T relations, including when glued into any surrounding cobordism because the TQFT respects composition and tensor product.
In the four-tube relation, each side consists locally of two ways to attach one tube. Applying the TQFT to the local four-disk input , either side gives
This follows by applying at each tube attachment and at the two cut disks. The equality on the local input implies equality as maps: tensoring with identity maps and composing with the maps for the unchanged part of the surface preserves equality. Thus the four-tube relation is respected.
Every generating local relation of is respected by steps 1.2 and 1.3, while the Frobenius identities respect the isotopy and gluing presentation by step 1.1. Therefore the TQFT factors through the quotient defining , as asserted.

An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
