How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The Signorini contact set is nonempty, closed, and convex
Statement
Under The vector Signorini contact set and variational inequality, is nonempty, closed, and convex in the Hilbert space .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The polygon and partial-trace Hilbert space , a continuous obstacle , a unit normal , and .
The Axiom of Choice is inherited through the trace map and the Hilbert-space interface for . (The Axiom of Choice, The partial-trace displacement space is a Hilbert space)
The contact trace is bounded and linear. (The partial-trace displacement space is a Hilbert space)
The contact set is the preimage of the nonnegative cone under . (The vector Signorini contact set and variational inequality)
The contact segment has finite length and its continuous obstacle belongs to . (Partial-trace displacement space on a polygon, The vector Signorini contact set and variational inequality)
Proof
Given: , , , and as above.
The zero field belongs to , and almost everywhere, so . If and , linearity of gives almost everywhere, so .
If and in , then almost everywhere for each , hence and almost everywhere. Thus the cone is closed; it is convex by pointwise convexity. By [F1] and [F3], the affine map is continuous into , so its preimage of that closed convex cone is closed in . This proves the claim.

Dependency tree · two levels
12 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
