How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Partial-trace displacement space on a polygon

Definition

Assume the Axiom of Choice. A bounded connected Lipschitz polygon Ω⊂R2 is a bounded connected open set whose boundary is a simple closed polygonal curve and, near every boundary point after a rigid coordinate change, is the graph of a Lipschitz function with Ω on one side. Assume Ω is a W1,2-extension domain in the sense of Sobolev extension domains and extension operators. Fix two disjoint closed straight segments ΓD,ΓC⊂∂Ω, each of positive length and each lying strictly inside a straight side of ∂Ω.

As part of the geometry data, fix bounded C1 subdomains UD,UC⊂Ω (in the sense of Bounded C^k domains and boundary charts) whose boundaries have relatively open flat patches containing ΓD,ΓC, respectively. Such collars can be chosen as sufficiently thin stadium-shaped domains along slightly longer segments of the same polygon sides, with their rounded ends outside the prescribed segments. Let TD,TC be the restrictions to these segments of the bounded trace operators on UD,UC supplied by The Lp trace operator on a bounded C1 domain, applied componentwise to the restrictions of functions in H1(Ω;R2). For j∈{D,C}, if v∈H1(Ω;R2) has a representative on Uj extending continuously to Uj‾, then Tjv agrees in L2(Γj;R2) with that extension's restriction to Γj, by the trace theorem's agreement clause. In particular, this holds for v∈H1(Ω;R2)∩C(Ω‾;R2).

Define V:={v∈H1(Ω;R2):TDv=0 in L2(ΓD;R2)},∥v∥V:=∥v∥H1(Ω). The contact normal n∈R2 is a fixed unit vector on ΓC, oriented so that a positive value of TCv⋅n opens the contact gap. No pointwise value of a general H1 class is used in this definition.

Remarks

The trace maps use fixed collars so their meaning is independent of pointwise representatives. The polygon and segment hypotheses here are the geometric branch used by the contact items; the collars are part of the fixed data.

27 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
