How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Weight and stability degree give a uniform representation-stability range
Statement
Let be a field of characteristic and let be an FI-module over with finite-dimensional values, weight and stability degree (Weight of an FI-module over a field of characteristic zero, Injectivity, surjectivity and stability degree). Let be the consistent sequence determined by (Uniform representation stability for consistent sequences of -modules). Then is uniformly representation stable with stable range : the maps are injective for all , the -span of is all of for all , and for every partition the multiplicity of in is independent of for all . No choice principle is used.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A characteristic-zero field , an FI-module over with finite-dimensional values, and , and the consistent sequence with induced by the standard inclusion (Uniform representation stability for consistent sequences of -modules); for , is the irreducible -module with label , of multiplicity in (Weight of an FI-module over a field of characteristic zero, Specht modules classify the irreducibles over every field of characteristic zero).
A consistent sequence is uniformly representation stable with stable range when (I) is injective for all , (II) the -span of is for all , and (III) for every partition the multiplicity is independent of for all (Uniform representation stability for consistent sequences of -modules).
, so for every the transition map is an isomorphism for all (Injectivity, surjectivity and stability degree, The coinvariant functors and the transition maps ).
means that no irreducible of label with occurs as a constituent of for any ; hence whenever and is defined (Weight of an FI-module over a field of characteristic zero).
For and : (i) ; (ii) if , then ; (iii) for fixed and , for all ; (iv) if an FI-module over a characteristic-zero field has , then, for every , every subquotient of satisfies (Coinvariants detect vanishing of subquotients of bounded weight, and padded irreducibles stabilise).
Every constituent of satisfies (A stability degree bounds the first row of every padding tail).
with transition map induced by an injection fixing ; is a functor, it is exact when contains , and it preserves finite direct sums, so (The coinvariant functors and the transition maps , The coinvariants functor).
Over the characteristic-zero field , every finite-dimensional -module is a direct sum of copies of the pairwise non-isomorphic irreducibles (Maschke's theorem for finite groups over fields whose characteristic does not divide , Specht modules classify the irreducibles over every field of characteristic zero).
Proof
The commuting -action on makes every -equivariant by The coinvariant functors and the transition maps , so the isomorphisms used below preserve representation types. Let and let with cokernel , so that is a quotient of . The image of is the -span of , since ; hence condition (I) is for all and condition (II) is for all .
If , then for every for which is defined, so condition (III) is automatic for such ; it remains to treat .
Vanishing criteria: for one has , and for one has . Indeed is a submodule of and is a quotient of , both are subquotients of modules of weight (Weight of an FI-module over a field of characteristic zero), and F4 applies with .
Factorization: for , identify with and with along the standard identifications of with and of with . The transition map factors in two ways: , where is the quotient map onto coinvariants of the larger subgroup , and , where is induced by . Exactness of coinvariants over gives and .
We prove (III) by induction on in the range . Fix , let (so ), and assume the multiplicities are independent of in the range for all . Since , the transition maps give isomorphisms for all , so the isomorphism class of is independent of . By [F7] is a finite direct sum of irreducibles, and [F6] gives ; by F4 with only the labels with contribute, and by F4 with those with contribute . For , F4 gives , independent of , provided ; this holds because for every occurring constituent by [F5] and . Hence in the decomposition the first summand has an isomorphism class independent of (each factor is independent of and each multiplicity is constant by the induction hypothesis), and the total has an isomorphism class independent of , so the second summand does too; as the with are pairwise non-isomorphic, every multiplicity with is independent of in the range. This proves (III) for all with and hence, with step 2.1, for all .
Let , so that and is an isomorphism by [F2]. The first factorization in step 2.3 then forces to be injective, and the second forces to be surjective; by the exactness identifications in step 2.3 and the criteria in step 2.2, and . By step 1.1, conditions (I) and (II) hold for all .
Steps 2.1 and 3.1 give condition (III) for and steps 2.2, 2.3 and 3.2 give conditions (I) and (II) for ; hence the consistent sequence is uniformly representation stable with stable range .
