How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
PTFA group rings embed in skew fields of fractions
Statement
Let G be a PTFA group and let QG be its group ring over the rational field. Then QG has no zero divisors and satisfies both the left and right Ore conditions. Consequently QG embeds in a skew field of fractions in which every nonzero element of QG is invertible.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: A PTFA group G with a finite subnormal series whose factors are torsion-free abelian.
PTFA means that G has such a finite subnormal series; each subgroup need only be normal in the next (Poly-torsion-free abelian groups).
The rational group ring has the group elements as a basis, bilinear group-law multiplication and a nonzero identity (The group ring of finitely supported formal -linear combinations of group elements, The group ring is a unital -algebra with basis , and each is a unit of ).
If with torsion-free abelian and has no zero divisors, then has no zero divisors, including for nonsplit extensions (Nonsplit torsion-free abelian extensions preserve absence of group-ring zero divisors).
Every group with the finite subnormal series in [F1] satisfies the finite left Folner condition without a choice axiom (PTFA groups satisfy the finite Folner condition without a choice hypothesis).
A group-ring with no zero divisors and finite left Folner sets has both Ore common-multiple properties and an explicitly constructed division ring of fractions in which every element is a right fraction (Finite Folner sets give both Ore conditions and a constructed skew field of fractions).
Proof
Given: The data in the Statement.
Fix a finite series as in [F1]. Its base ring has no zero divisors. For each , apply [F3] to and its torsion-free abelian quotient. Induction gives absence of zero divisors in . The domain supplier keeps the conjugation automorphisms and cocycle units of the extension in its leading-coefficient product, so this induction assumes neither a splitting nor normality of each in the final group.
By [F4], the same finite subnormal series gives finite left Folner sets in . That supplier constructs finite sets directly across each group extension, with only finitely many coset lifts for each test, rather than assuming an invariant mean or adding a choice principle.
Apply [F5] to the ring from step 1.1 and the finite sets from step 1.2. It gives nonzero common right multiples of every nonzero , and the group-inversion anti-automorphism gives nonzero common left multiples. It then constructs a division ring from equivalence classes of right-linear maps on nonzero right ideals, embeds injectively, and shows every element of that division ring is with . These are exactly both Ore conditions and the required skew field of fractions. The length-zero case is already included by the base field.
Depends on
- The group ring $R[G]$ of finitely supported formal $R$-linear combinations of group elements
- Poly-torsion-free abelian groups
- The group ring $R[G]$ is a unital $R$-algebra with basis $G$, and each $g\in G$ is a unit of $R[G]$
- Nonsplit torsion-free abelian extensions preserve absence of group-ring zero divisors
- PTFA groups satisfy the finite Folner condition without a choice hypothesis
- Finite Folner sets give both Ore conditions and a constructed skew field of fractions
