How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Fusion measurement branches are normalized exactly when nonzero

Statement

Let (Pa)a∈A be the finite fusion-channel projectors of Fusion-channel measurement access on a finite-dimensional fusion space H, and let ψ∈H be a unit vector. The channel probabilities pa=∥Paψ∥2 are nonnegative and sum to one. If pa>0, the conditional branch is the unit vector Paψ/pa. If pa=0, then Paψ=0 and no normalized conditional state is defined.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: A finite orthogonal resolution (Pa) of the identity and a unit input vector ψ.

[F1]

The channel family is a finite projective measurement: its projections are pairwise orthogonal and sum to identity. Fusion-channel measurement access

[F2]

The projective measurement outcome law assigns probability pa=tr⁡(∣ψ⟩⟨ψ∣Pa) to outcome a. Projective measurement outcome weights are probabilities

[F3]

A unit vector defines a pure-state ray whose rank-one projector is a density operator. Pure state and ray Rank-one density operators are pure-state projectors

[F4]

On an outcome of positive probability, the conditional density operator is PaρPa/pa. Conditional state for a projective measurement

The Dirac outer product acts by ∣x⟩⟨y∣z=⟨z,y⟩rootx; trace is the sum of diagonal entries, and ∥x∥2=⟨x,x⟩root. Dirac Notation Conversion The basis-independent trace of an endomorphism of a finite-dimensional vector space The norm ∥v∥=⟨v,v⟩ induced by a real or complex inner product

[F6]

In orthonormal coordinates, ∣x⟩⟨y∣ has matrix [x][y]†, so its trace is ⟨x,y⟩root. Dirac Notation Coordinate Identity

Set ρ=∣ψ⟩⟨ψ∣, a density operator by [F3]. The Dirac rule and Pa=Pa∗=Pa2 give ∣ψ⟩⟨ψ∣Pa=∣ψ⟩⟨Paψ∣, whose trace is ⟨ψ,Paψ⟩root by [F6]. By self-adjointness and idempotence this equals ⟨Paψ,Paψ⟩root=∥Paψ∥2 by [F5]. Thus [F2] identifies pa=∥Paψ∥2≥0 as the outcome probability. The resolution identity gives ∑apa=⟨ψ,(∑aPa)ψ⟩root=∥ψ∥2=1.

If pa>0, then ρa=PaρPa/pa is the conditional density operator by [F4]. The Dirac rule and self-adjointness give PaρPa=∣Paψ⟩⟨Paψ∣; using step 1.1, ρa is the rank-one projector of the unit vector Paψ/pa. If pa=0, step 1.1 gives ∥Paψ∥=0, hence Paψ=0. The zero-probability convention is that this branch is omitted and no normalized conditional vector or state is assigned; division by pa=0 is undefined.

34 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
