How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Every ribbon knot is smoothly slice
Statement
Assume the Axiom of Countable Choice. Every smooth oriented knot that bounds a smooth immersed disk in with only ribbon double arcs bounds a smooth properly embedded disk in with boundary . In particular, its smooth slice genus is zero.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: ACω, a smooth oriented knot , and a ribbon disk for .
A ribbon disk is a smooth immersion of the oriented disk with embedded boundary and only finitely many ribbon double arcs, whose preimages are one proper arc and one interior arc. (Ribbon disks and ribbon knots)
Such an immersion has a smooth proper embedded resolution in fixed on its boundary. (Local resolution of ribbon singularities)
The smooth slice genus is the minimum genus of a connected compact smooth oriented properly embedded surface in with boundary ; the disk has genus zero and all genera are nonnegative. (Smooth and topological slice genus)
ACω is the sequence-choice axiom assumed in [F3]. (The Axiom of Countable Choice ())
Proof
Choose a ribbon immersion for as in [F1]. Applying [F2] gives a smooth proper embedding that agrees with on ; hence its boundary is exactly the oriented knot .
The image of is a connected orientable disk, so its Euler characteristic is and its genus is . By [F3], this disk is an admissible smooth spanning surface in the set defining ; since that set contains and consists of nonnegative integers, . Thus is smoothly slice. The argument from [F1] to [F2] itself is choice-free; ACω is present only for the library's slice-genus convention [F3].
Remarks
This proves ribbon smooth sliceness. It makes no assertion that every smooth slice knot is ribbon.

24 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
