How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
A two-level generator fixes many states
Statement refuted
Let and let be complex-linear maps on that are completely positive (each finite ancilla amplification preserves positive matrices) and trace-preserving ( for every ), with and for all . A density matrix means , for every , and ; it is faithful when for every nonzero . For a Hermitian matrix and , define and the Gibbs density . A density matrix is stationary for when for every . For a density matrix and faithful density , let , using the natural logarithm, the finite spectral logarithm on the support of , and . The claim refuted here is that nonincrease of relative entropy to a faithful stationary Gibbs density is sufficient to guarantee that the Gibbs density is the unique stationary density and that every initial density converges to it.

Facts & Assumptions
Units convention: In the refuted Gibbs formula, is an energy matrix with entries in joules and is an inverse-energy parameter in joules, so is dimensionless. All real values of , including zero and negative values, are retained; no positive-temperature restriction is imposed.
Given: The space is with standard basis , , written ; denotes the matrix unit defined by . Let , joules, have units seconds, and have units joules. The generator acts on dimensionless matrices as . Time is in seconds. An initial density has the form with and .
Stationary finite quantum semigroups decrease relative entropy (this batch’s draft theorem; its current proof is presented here as a conditional input and remains subject to independent review): for a finite channel semigroup with a faithful stationary density, relative entropy to that density is nonincreasing.
Finite completely positive trace-preserving maps: a finite quantum channel is a complex-linear map that is completely positive and trace-preserving.
Finite GKSL generators and units: a finite GKSL generator on dimensionless matrices has Hamiltonian term and finite jump terms , with jump matrices in seconds.
Finite GKSL generates CPTP semigroups: a finite GKSL generator produces finite channel maps for every .
Every finite-dimensional normed space is Banach: every finite-dimensional normed space is complete.
The exponential series of a bounded operator: on a Banach space the operator exponential is given by its operator-norm convergent series.
Counterexample
Let , which is Hermitian and has units seconds, so . Substitution of and this jump into [F2] gives . Use the max-entry norm on ; the space is finite-dimensional and hence Banach by [F4]. Since is diagonal with entries , , so is bounded. Thus [F5] supplies the norm-convergent exponential series. By [F3] and [F1], this generator produces a finite channel semigroup.
Since , and , so the faithful Gibbs density is . Direct multiplication gives and , . Since , applying the exponential series [F5] to these four eigenmatrices yields . Every diagonal density is therefore stationary, including the faithful Gibbs density and the distinct density .
The hypotheses of [A1] hold by steps 1.1 and 1.2, so relative entropy to is nonincreasing in this example. Yet remains fixed and differs from for every . Hence the Gibbs density is not the unique stationary density, and this initial state does not converge to it, refuting both conclusions.
Remarks
The vertices are the chosen eigenvectors of , and the generator leaves their population coordinates fixed. Because , they belong to the same degenerate energy eigenspace. An arrow would represent a nonzero population-transfer rate; here no such arrow occurs, while the separate coherence mode decays exponentially.
