How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite GKSL generates CPTP semigroups
Statement
Let be a finite GKSL generator on , , with the units and conventions of Finite GKSL generators and units. For a bounded operator on a complex Banach space, write for the operator-norm convergent series of The exponential series of a bounded operator. Then is a finite channel for every . The family satisfies , , and is norm-continuous. Time is measured in seconds; no negative-time channel or physical bath limit is asserted.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: , , , a finite family , and the resulting of Finite GKSL generators and units.
Finite completely positive trace-preserving maps: for , positivity sends every matrix to a positive matrix. Complete positivity requires this after every finite ancilla extension; trace preservation separately requires equality of traces for every matrix input, without a positivity restriction on that input.
Complete finite Choi-Kraus equivalence: finite Kraus maps are completely positive, and their Kraus adjoint-square sum characterizes trace preservation.
Channel duals and norm closure: finite-dimensional completely positive maps are closed under induced-norm limits; finite channels are closed under such limits, composition, and finite convex combination.
Finite matrix trace cyclicity and nondegeneracy: the finite matrix trace is cyclic.
Every finite-dimensional normed space is Banach: every finite-dimensional real or complex normed space is complete.
The exponential series of a bounded operator: on a complex Banach space the operator exponential series converges absolutely in operator norm, differentiates to , and satisfies ; it also has the stated quadratic remainder bound.
Proof
Put , , , and . Then . Left multiplication by and right multiplication by commute; expanding their norm-convergent exponential series and using the binomial formula gives . Termwise adjunction gives for real . For every ancilla dimension , the amplification is conjugation by , hence preserves positivity. Thus is completely positive.
The map is completely positive by [F3], and every iterate is completely positive by composition. For , the series converges in finite-dimensional map norm; its partial sums are completely positive, so [F4] implies that is completely positive.
By [F7], for and each bounded linear map , . Applying this to shows that for fixed , for , with finite . Set . The telescoping identity for the difference of the th powers and the bound from [F7] show Each product on the left before taking the limit is completely positive by step 1.1 and step 2.1; [F4] therefore proves that is completely positive.
Cyclicity of finite trace [F5] gives for every : the commutator trace vanishes, and each cancels . By [F7], the norm-convergent exponential series differentiates term-by-term on bounded time intervals, so . Therefore . The exponential law [F7] gives , and the series gives norm continuity. Together with complete positivity from step 3.1, [F2] makes every a channel.
