How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Channel duals and norm closure
Statement
Let be a finite channel as defined in Finite completely positive trace-preserving maps. There is a unique linear map satisfying the trace-pairing identity
If , then ; in particular, is completely positive and unital. Composition and finite convex combinations of channels are channels. A limit in the induced operator norm , where , of channels is also a channel. Moreover, a norm limit of completely positive maps of these fixed finite dimensions is completely positive.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: Integers , a finite channel , and finite matrix traces.
Finite completely positive trace-preserving maps: a channel is complex-linear, completely positive under every finite ancilla extension, and trace-preserving.
Complete finite Choi-Kraus equivalence: every finite completely positive map has a finite Kraus form ; trace preservation is equivalent to .
Finite matrix trace cyclicity and nondegeneracy: the finite trace cycles rectangular products, and the matrix-unit pairing shows that for every forces .
Proof
Using the Kraus form in [F2] and finite trace cyclicity [F3], . Thus satisfies the trace-pairing identity.
If is another channel, then , and If and , , then has Kraus matrices , whose adjoint-square sum is . In both cases [F2] gives a channel.
If both satisfy the pairing identity for a fixed , then for every . By [F3], taking gives every entry of equal to zero, so uniqueness follows. The Kraus form in step 1.1 is completely positive by [F2], and by [F1] and [F2].
Let in the stated induced norm, with each completely positive. Since , each block converges to ; the finite Choi sums therefore converge in matrix norm. Every by [F2], and for every vector , , so . The equivalence in [F2] gives complete positivity. If each is trace-preserving, then for every , continuity of finite matrix trace gives ; thus is trace-preserving as well.
