How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Metric density, volume form and current flux of the flat metric in the identity chart
Example
Let carry the identity chart , the flat Lorentzian metric , the time orientation and the orientation for which the identity chart is oriented (Smooth time-oriented Lorentzian four-manifolds: the geometric objects of the model, Oriented smooth manifolds and oriented charts); let be the metric-selected connection of and the metric volume form (The metric volume form, current flux through 3-faces and finite-chain charges). Then:
- The metric density and the volume form are and in the identity chart, and .
- The connection is the coordinate connection, , so that for every smooth vector field and the divergence formula reduces to the coordinate divergence.
- For the divergence is , the current form is , and , in accordance with Divergence, Stokes flux balance and the non-null face formula for a Lorentzian current clause (a).
- Let with its coordinate orientation and coordinate volume . The affine simplex has adapted normal , so the flux of through it is . The affine simplex on the parallel plane has adapted normal , so its flux is . Both induced metric densities on the parameter simplex equal ; the signs follow from the stated parameter orientations and the ambient chart orientation.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The flat Lorentzian four-manifold with the identity chart , , the metric-selected connection of Metric compatibility, torsion freedom and the metric-selected connection class, the vector fields and of A smooth vector field is a smooth section of the tangent bundle, and the affine simplices and on .
The metric density is and the local volume form is in every oriented chart; for the flat metric both are constant (The metric volume form, current flux through 3-faces and finite-chain charges, Chart independence of the metric volume form, its value on orthonormal frames, and the unit normal and density of a non-null hyperplane).
On the identity chart the Christoffel symbols vanish, so is the coordinate connection and ; this is the unique metric-selected connection (Metric compatibility, torsion freedom and the metric-selected connection class, Existence and uniqueness of the metric-selected connection of a nondegenerate metric, and its extension to tensor fields, The derivative of the metric density and the chart formula for the divergence of a vector field).
The interior product inserts the vector in the first slot: ; consequently (Interior product of a form by a vector field, The wedge product of differential forms).
The exterior derivative of a -form is computed in coordinates by the alternating sum of partial derivatives, and (Divergence, Stokes flux balance and the non-null face formula for a Lorentzian current clause (a)).
For a non-null -face with adapted unit normal the pullback of on the ordered velocity basis equals with (Divergence, Stokes flux balance and the non-null face formula for a Lorentzian current clause (c), Chart independence of the metric volume form, its value on orthonormal frames, and the unit normal and density of a non-null hyperplane).
The simplex coefficient integral uses zero extension to . Each successive indicator section is an integrable interval indicator, so Riemann--Fubini on product rectangles, with lower and upper section integrals and content-zero exceptional sections reduces its volume to by The second fundamental theorem: if is differentiable on with and is integrable, then and the simplex-integral convention of Integral of a form over a smooth singular simplex.
Verification
(Density and volume form.) Since is constant, , and [L1] gives . Evaluating on the coordinate frame, .
(Connection and divergence.) The Christoffel symbols of the constant metric vanish: . By [L2], is the coordinate connection, so for (components , , ) the divergence is .
(Current form and its derivative.) By [L3], . Differentiating by [L4], , which equals by step 1.2.
(Two flux orientations.) On the affine simplex , the ordered velocities are and their Gram matrix is , so its determinant is and the induced density is . The ambient ordered basis is negatively oriented; therefore the adapted normal is . The face is non-null, , and . Hence and . On , the ordered velocities are with the same Gram determinant and density ; now is positively oriented, so and . Thus and , since the coordinate volume of is . This verifies clause 4 with consistent orientations and the induced area densities.
