How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Consistent maximally mixed local densities
Statement
Fix finite spin dimension on , . For every finite region , set
This is a consistent family of maximally mixed local density matrices. By the finite-dimensional density-state correspondence of Finite matrix C-star algebra and density-state duality and Consistent local densities extend to an algebraic state, it determines a unique algebraic state on the quasi-local spin algebra. For local , its expectation is .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: , , finite regions , and the finite local matrix algebras.
For and , the partial trace is defined by the configuration-basis matrix sum and satisfies for every (Infinite algebraic state and finite-region restrictions).
Every consistent positive trace-one local density family extends uniquely to an algebraic state on (Consistent local densities extend to an algebraic state).
Proof
Given: The family and facts [F1]–[F3].
Each is positive because it is a positive scalar multiple of the identity. Its trace is by [F1], including where .
Put and . For every , the defining partial-trace pairing gives where the last equality follows by summing the diagonal matrix coefficients over a configuration basis of , which has elements. The trace pairing is nondegenerate: if for every matrix , taking makes each entry zero. Hence . Since , Thus the family is consistent for every inclusion, including equality of regions ().
By [F3], this family extends to a unique algebraic state on , and its local restriction is for .
If and for disjoint finite regions, choose orthonormal configuration bases and for their local Hilbert spaces. The tensor basis gives Substitution into step 2.1 gives on these disjoint local factors; this product formula follows from the displayed density family and is not an assumption about arbitrary states.
