How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Exact quantum oscillator and spin ensembles
Exact canonical calculations for the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator with its proved Hermite spectral realization and for a declared independent two-level spin Hamiltonian. The low- and high-temperature limits retain the model's zero-point and ground-degeneracy qualifications. No generic third-law claim, species magnetic moment, material prediction, or measurement is asserted.
Statement
Assume the Axiom of Countable Choice (The Axiom of Countable Choice ()) and the preparation postulate Quantum statistics and model equilibrium preparation. Let in s, in kg, in J s, in J K, and in K; set in joules and in J. Take the self-adjoint one-dimensional realization of on with Hermite eigenvectors , eigenvalues , and domain , as proved in Oscillator scaling and exact realization. Declare this oscillator to be a fixed-number QSM model with particle number and mode set in its usual order. The unitary , , identifies its one-particle sector with this realization; the symmetric and antisymmetric one-particle sectors coincide. Adopt the canonical preparation when its trace is positive and finite. Define when its absolute energy moment is finite, at fixed , and when its eigenvalue entropy sum is finite. Then Its entropy is ; as , , . As , .
For a separate two-level spin model, let with its standard orthonormal basis, define on its full domain , and set for in joules. Declare this separate QSM model to be its fixed sector with two ordered modes , identified with by the coordinate basis, and adopt when . Define by the same mean, fixed- temperature derivative, and entropy formulas. Then , , , and as when , whereas when . These results make no generic third-law claim.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: , in J, in J, and the adopted state assignment.
Quantum statistics and model equilibrium preparation: on each explicitly declared fixed-number QSM sector above, adopt canonical Gibbs preparation when the corresponding trace is positive and finite. This is a physical assumption, not a consequence of the energy spectrum.
Oscillator scaling and exact realization, Statement: the oscillator has the complete Hermite eigenbasis, eigenvalues , and exact squared-weight self-adjoint domain.
Explicit diagonal Fock domains and occupation trace, Statement: a positive summable diagonal Boltzmann trace normalizes the occupation weights; its moment identities apply when the relevant sums converge.
Proof
The oscillator eigenvalues from [F1] give levels for the declared Hamiltonian. Since , summing the geometric series yields , finite and positive; the domain and spectral realization are those of [F1], so this sum is the trace of the declared Gibbs multiplier.
The normalized probabilities are . Differentiating the convergent geometric series, or multiplying its absolutely convergent power series by , gives and . Therefore and differentiating with respect to using gives the displayed .
Since , . Substituting gives the stated entropy. As , , so , , and both and tend to zero; hence .
Set . Taylor's formula for at zero gives , so as . Multiplying by in cancels the constant halves and yields .
The spin eigenvalues are and , so its normalized Gibbs probabilities are and . Their sum gives ; their energy mean is and variance . Multiplying the variance by gives the displayed heat capacity. If , one probability tends one and the other zero, so the two-state entropy tends zero; if , both probabilities equal at all temperatures and .
