How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Equal zero-traces do not force smooth concordance
Statement refuted
Assume the Axiom of Choice. The proposed statement is that for every pair of smooth oriented knots , a smooth diffeomorphism implies that and are smoothly concordant.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: Full AC, the Conway knot and its Figure 2 trace partner .
The Axiom of Choice, written AC, is assumed. The Axiom of Choice
AC implies dependent choice and hence countable choice ; this supplies every retained local countable-choice hypothesis. AC implies DC implies countable choice, The Axiom of Countable Choice ()
Smooth knot concordance: a smooth concordance is a properly embedded smooth annulus in with product collars.
Lee computations for the Conway knot and its Piccirillo partner gives by its direct Conway Lee computation. Only its Conway conclusion is used here.
Lee cobordism maps give the genus filtration bound gives for an actual smoothly properly embedded oriented genus- cobordism with product collars.
Piccirillo’s partner has the same zero-trace and Rasmussen invariant two proves under full AC that and , using the retained local framed witness, the explicitly imported published zero-trace equality for the named knots, and the direct rational Lee calculation.
Counterexample
The oriented knots of [F4] have diffeomorphic zero-traces. Suppose they were smoothly concordant. By [F1] the concordance is a properly embedded product-collared annulus, hence a genus-zero cobordism.
Apply [F3] with . It gives , so the two invariants must agree.
But [F2] and [F4] give , . Their difference has absolute value two, contradicting step 2.1. Thus these actual equal-zero-trace knots are not smoothly concordant, refuting the unchanged universal Statement.

Dependency tree · two levels
30 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
