How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Adjoint-twisted homology and Culler-Shalen data

Definition

Assume full AC. Let K⊂S3 be a smooth oriented knot, EK its exterior, and ρ:π1(EK)→SL2(C) a representation. The adjoint local system Ad⁡ρ has fibre sl2(C) and left group-module action γ⋅v=ρ(γ)vρ(γ)−1. In the first-loop-first intrinsic convention, this means forward path transport Tγ(v)=ρ(γ)−1vρ(γ); equivalently the corresponding right action is v⋅γ=ρ(γ)−1vρ(γ). Its twisted homology H∗(EK;Ad⁡ρ) is the intrinsic local-system homology with these transports, equivalently the homology of the cellular local-coefficient complex for a supplied CW structure; the same convention defines boundary-torus twisted homology and the inclusion map i∗:H1(∂EK;Ad⁡ρ)→H1(EK;Ad⁡ρ). An admissible adjoint representation is one for which there is a nonzero vector vρ∈sl2(C) fixed by the peripheral adjoint action such that {[vρ⊗λ],[vρ⊗μ]} is a basis of H1(∂EK;Ad⁡ρ) and ker⁡i∗ is one-dimensional. For an irreducible affine character curve X, its function field C(X) is the fraction field of its coordinate domain. A tautological representation over C(X) is a homomorphism ρX:π1(EK)→SL2(C(X)) whose character is the generic character of X. A smooth projective completion consists of a smooth complete curve X‾ with a dense open subset U identified with the normalization Xν of X, with its finite birational normalization map ν:U→X recorded. When X is smooth, ν identifies U with X, recovering the usual completion. An ideal point is a point x∈X‾∖U; points of U over singular affine points of X are affine branches and are retained inside U. Such an ideal point defines the discrete valuation vx(f)=ord⁡x(f) on C(X). The valuation ring is Ox={f:vx(f)≥0}, and a uniformizer is an element π∈Ox with vx(π)=1. Its residue field is kx=Ox/(π). An Ox-lattice in C(X)2 is a free rank-two Ox-submodule spanning C(X)2; two lattices are homothetic if one is a nonzero scalar multiple of the other. The Bruhat–Tits tree has homothety classes of these lattices as vertices, with two vertices adjacent if representatives satisfy πΛ⊊Λ′⊊Λ and Λ/Λ′ is one-dimensional over kx. Whenever the tautological representation exists, it acts on this tree. The ideal point, valuation, action, and any essential surface produced from the action are its Culler–Shalen data; that surface is called the associated Culler–Shalen surface.

73 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
