How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Hopf spectral and multilinear normal-form data

Definition

Let f(x,λ) be a real C3 vector field on an open subset of Rd×R, and suppose f(0,0)=0. Put A=Dxf(0,0). Assume A has a simple pair of eigenvalues iω and −iω, where ω>0, and no other eigenvalue on the imaginary axis. Let AC be the complexification of A. Choose q,p∈Cd with

Aq=iωq,A∗p=−iωp,q∗q=1,p∗q=1.

Here u∗v=uˉ Tv is the standard Hermitian product. To obtain both normalizations, start with nonzero compatible eigenvectors q0,p0 and put q=q0/q0∗q0. Simplicity gives a:=p0∗q≠0 by For a simple eigenvalue, left and right eigenvectors pair nontrivially and may be normalized by y∗x=1. Set p=p0/a‾; then q∗q=1 and p∗q=a/a=1, while both eigenvector equations are preserved. Write B=Dx2f(0,0) and C=Dx3f(0,0) for the symmetric real multilinear derivatives, extended complex multilinearly. Since zero and 2iω are not eigenvalues of A, define

G21:=p∗ ⁣(C(q,q,qˉ)−2B ⁣(q,A−1B(q,qˉ))+B ⁣(qˉ,(2iωI−A)−1B(q,q)))

and define the first Lyapunov coefficient in this normalization by

ℓ1:=Re⁡G212ω.

If q is rescaled to cq and the unit-norm condition is dropped while p∗q=1 is preserved, then ℓ1 rescales by ∣c∣2; under the declared condition q∗q=1, the remaining phase freedom leaves ℓ1 unchanged. Its sign is the local cubic radial sign. The definition alone is not a bifurcation theorem.

For an equilibrium at arbitrary (x∗,λ0), apply this definition to the translated field f^(y,μ)=f(x∗+y,λ0+μ) at (y,μ)=(0,0). Thus A=Dxf(x∗,λ0), B=Dx2f(x∗,λ0) and C=Dx3f(x∗,λ0), and p,q,ω refer to that same A. Translation preserves these spatial derivatives and their Euclidean normalization. If the equilibrium is continued as ξ(λ), the further state change y=x−ξ(λ) at each fixed parameter gives y˙=f(y+ξ(λ),λ); because λ˙=0, no extra time-derivative term appears. Spatial jets at the critical parameter are still the same A,B,C.

18 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
