How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Edge-face Maxwell finite element semidiscretization
Definition
Let be a bounded contractible Lipschitz polyhedron with a finite matching affine tetrahedral mesh , and use the real lowest-order spaces defined in Lowest-order Whitney and Nedelec de Rham spaces. The electric trial field is ; the magnetic flux field is , with no imposed zero normal trace on . PEC means the closure-defined zero tangential subspace from Zero tangential trace H(curl) space. Periodic analogues use the periodic cell complex. Countable Choice is inherited from the H(div) and affine Piola space definitions in the suppliers; the finite matrix operations below use no additional choice.
Put . Choose an edge basis of the electric trial space and a face basis of , so and . Define the symmetric mass matrices They are positive definite by the coefficient bounds in Transient Maxwell system with piecewise materials and boundary conditions and linear independence of the finite element bases. Let and be the coefficient matrices, in these chosen bases, of the restricted map and of . The moment-commuting supplier gives on the full spaces, hence also after restriction to . Set , with . The lossless, conductivity-free semidiscretization with this source is The coefficient ODE is defined for arbitrary initial coefficients. To represent the magnetic constraint of the Maxwell model, require : the Faraday row and give , so and compatible data remain divergence-free. An incompatible initial divergence is preserved, not corrected by this ODE. This is a spatial Galerkin system only; no time integrator is included. The cochain convention and weak material-interface formulation come from the declared spaces and Transient Maxwell system with piecewise materials and boundary conditions. Smooth interpolation and a uniformly bounded commuting projection are separate prerequisites for the later error estimate and are not asserted by this definition.

21 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
