How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Reaction vector fields and quasi-positivity

Definition

Let m≥1, let U⊆Rm be open, and let F:U→Rm be locally Lipschitz. Write Fi for its ith component. The autonomous reaction equation is z′(t)=F(z(t)). The field is quasi-positive on U∩[0,∞)m if, for every i and every z∈U∩[0,∞)m with zi=0, one has Fi(z)≥0. This condition concerns only the coordinate faces of the nonnegative orthant.

For a rectangle R=∏i=1m[ai,bi]⊂U with ai<bi, the field is inward-pointing on R if Fi(z)≥0 whenever z∈R and zi=ai, and Fi(z)≤0 whenever z∈R and zi=bi. If ai=0 for every i, quasi-positivity supplies the lower-face half of this condition, but the upper-face inequalities remain separate hypotheses. Neither boundary condition by itself asserts that a numerical update preserves R.

For smoothness-dependent results below, F∈C4(U,Rm) will be stated explicitly. No smoothness beyond local Lipschitz continuity is built into this definition.
