How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Representations of unital associative algebras
Definition
Let be a field, let be a unital associative -algebra (Algebras over a commutative ring, central structure maps, and algebra homomorphisms), and let be a -vector space. Write for the -linear endomorphisms of (The space of linear maps with pointwise addition and scalar multiplication); its multiplication is composition and its identity is (The endomorphism ring under addition and composition, Module endomorphisms form a ring under pointwise addition and composition). An (unital) representation of on is a -linear map such that and The associated action is . The zero vector space is allowed; in that case .
Remarks
This definition specifies an action of on one vector space. It does not by itself specify an action on . For the module interpretation and the extra coproduct data used for bialgebra modules, see Associative algebra representations are unital modules and The module category of a bialgebra and its tensor action.
Depends on
- Algebras over a commutative ring, central structure maps, and algebra homomorphisms
- Unital left and right modules over a ring; unqualified module means left module
- Vector space over a field
- The space $\mathcal L(V,W)$ of linear maps with pointwise addition and scalar multiplication
- $\mathcal L(V,W)$ is a vector space over the common scalar field
- The endomorphism ring $\operatorname{End}_R(M)$ under addition and composition
- Module endomorphisms form a ring under pointwise addition and composition

20 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
