How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Szegedy walk invariant subspaces from discriminant eigenvectors
Statement
For any eigenpair with and , put and . Then is invariant under , and
All eigenvalues of satisfy the displayed interval hypothesis by The Szegedy discriminant is self-adjoint and contractive. If or , then and the span is one-dimensional. If , the two vectors are linearly independent and the invariant subspace is two-dimensional.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A finite row-stochastic kernel, a nonzero vector with and real , and as defined in Szegedy row-preparation map and discriminant and Szegedy reflection walk and its two-reflection square.
The Szegedy discriminant is self-adjoint and contractive: is self-adjoint with , and .
Eigenvalues, eigenvectors, eigenspaces , and the spectrum of an endomorphism: is an eigenpair when .
Linear combination of a finite list, and the span as the smallest linear subspace containing : consists of all linear combinations of .
Szegedy row-preparation map and discriminant: the ordered-product basis is orthonormal and .
Proof
Since , [F2] gives .
The adjoint identity gives . Hence , because [F5] gives .
Steps 1.1–2.1 and [F4] show the span is invariant. Since is an isometry by [F1], . Write in the orthonormal product basis. By [F5], bijectively permutes that basis, so and . The adjoint identity gives , which is real. If , expansion gives , hence . If and , equality of norms gives , while gives , a contradiction; thus are independent.
Depends on

- Szegedy row-preparation map and discriminant
- The Szegedy discriminant is self-adjoint and contractive
- The adjoint $T^*:W\to V$ is characterised by $\langle Tv,w\rangle_W=\langle v,T^*w\rangle_V$
- Every linear map between finite-dimensional inner product spaces has a unique adjoint
- Eigenvalues, eigenvectors, eigenspaces $E_\lambda(T)=\ker(T-\lambda I)$, and the spectrum $\sigma_F(T)$ of an endomorphism
- Linear combination of a finite list, and the span $\operatorname{span}(S)$ as the smallest linear subspace containing $S$
- Finite row-stochastic kernel

35 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
