How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The combined-field operator for smooth-boundary Helmholtz scattering
Definition
Let be a bounded connected domain in with connected boundary , let be connected, and let point outward from . Fix and . The outgoing Helmholtz kernel is For and , define and . The combined-field potential is , and its exterior trace defines the smooth-density operator . This definition makes no assertion that extends boundedly or Fredholmly to a Sobolev space; these analytical properties are proved in separate theorems. For this smooth-boundary branch, denotes the trace from and uses the same fixed normal as the interior trace. For this surface, fix a finite graph atlas and subordinate partition as in the general Lipschitz chart-space convention of Lipschitz polyhedral boundary, orientation, and trace spaces, using graph surface measure. Use its square-sum Hilbert norm, real spaces, complexification and conjugate-dual convention for . This imports the space convention only; the trace/lift and layer theorems are proved separately and do not invoke the polyhedral trace theorem.
Remarks
The Sobolev extension, compact perturbation and actual bounded invertibility are proved in Smooth-boundary trace lifts and Sobolev Helmholtz layer extensions, The smooth Helmholtz combined field is a compact perturbation of half the identity and Bounded invertibility of the smooth-boundary Helmholtz combined field. The latter retains its historical identifier.

17 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
