How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Even-dimensional spinor bundles, chirality, and the spin connection
Definition
Assume full AC. Let be an oriented Riemannian manifold of even dimension with a specified Spin lift . Let be the complex irreducible Clifford module of dimension supplied by Complex spinor modules and complete reducibility for Euclidean Spin, with positive-square complex Clifford action and full-even Spin representation . Put for the negative-square cotangent action. This changes the Clifford square sign and preserves equivariance under , since the scalar commutes with that action. Define the complex spinor bundle by the associated real bundle using the realification of , and descend multiplication by and the Clifford action through their commuting transition maps.
For an oriented orthonormal basis , define the chirality operator on by . The calculation below proves that this is basis-independent, squares to , and anticommutes with each . Its eigenspaces are and their associated bundles are . The Levi–Civita connection on lifts through the differential of to the spin connection on . This item defines these objects; Spinor and geometric Clifford bundles and connections are well defined ↗ supplies the global bundle, metric, connection, and transition verification.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: Full AC, the Clifford action and the selected oriented orthonormal basis in the Statement.
The generators satisfy and anticommute for distinct orthonormal covectors (Universal Clifford algebra of a quadratic space, Graded Hermitian Clifford modules and geometric Dirac operators).
In even dimension the complex spinor module has dimension and its Spin restriction has two half-spin representations, each of dimension (Complex spinor modules and complete reducibility for Euclidean Spin).
The actual even-algebra identification Even subalgebras of real and complex Clifford algebras and full complex matrix classification Real and complex Clifford algebra classification with explicit signature give the spinor and two half-spin dimensions in [F2]. The negative-sign action here is obtained from the positive complex action by multiplication by , as checked below.
Proof
Given: , the Clifford generators , and .
The positive generators satisfy , so and their polarized relation is the required negative one. Spin equivariance is preserved: . Its negative-sign volume chirality is , so the two half-spin labels are exchanged when is odd, with dimensions unchanged. Reversing the order of the pairwise anticommuting generators takes swaps, and their squares contribute . Hence . Since , . For any , moving through the other factors changes the sign by ; thus , and linearity gives the same relation for every covector.
The product is fully alternating because distinct orthonormal generators anticommute. Under an oriented orthogonal basis change , its top exterior coefficient is multiplied by , so is independent of the chosen oriented orthonormal basis. Since over , the projections split . Anticommutation shows each exchanges the two eigenspaces. Their dimensions are equal to by [F2]. The exact full and even matrix factors are those in [A1].
