How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Spinor and geometric Clifford bundles and connections are well defined
Statement
Assume full AC. On an even-dimensional oriented Riemannian manifold with a supplied Spin lift, the realified associated construction in Even-dimensional spinor bundles, chirality, and the spin connection is a smooth Hermitian graded Clifford bundle with a global compatible spin connection. For any graded Hermitian Clifford module there is locally a graded factorization . Its local multiplicity spaces and the relative curvature have transition laws for which is a global even form. In the spin-twisted case , this relative curvature is the curvature of the supplied unitary connection. For the zero-dimensional relative statement, use the orientation-graded reference line of The A-hat form and relative Chern character; this does not construct a Spin lift.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: AC, the complex spin module and its full-even Spin representation, a Spin lift, and (for the relative statement) a finite-rank graded Hermitian Clifford module and compatible connection.
Under the repository convention, a smooth manifold is Hausdorff and second-countable (Smooth manifolds and their smooth charts, Topological manifolds without boundary: Hausdorff, second-countable, and locally Euclidean spaces).
For , the complex Clifford algebra has its unique irreducible module of dimension ; chirality splits its Spin representation into (Complex spinor modules and complete reducibility for Euclidean Spin).
A real representation of a smooth principal bundle defines a smooth associated real vector bundle by the quotient (Associated bundles, Associated vector bundles are well-defined).
The Levi–Civita connection is the unique metric-compatible torsion-free connection (Fundamental theorem of riemannian geometry). Local matrices of a connection obey , and exactly such matrices glue to a unique connection (Connection one form transformation law, Local connection forms glue exactly when they obey the transformation law).
Curvature is the bracket-corrected commutator of covariant derivatives; in an orthonormal frame the Levi–Civita curvature action lifts to Clifford endomorphisms by (Curvature of an affine connection, Riemann curvature four-tensor, Universal Clifford algebra of a quadratic space).
The actual Even subalgebras of real and complex Clifford algebras and Real and complex Clifford algebra classification with explicit signature supply the full and even complex matrix algebras underlying [F1]. Full AC is assumed (The Axiom of Choice).
The projection is a central two-sheeted topological covering (Pin and full-even Spin are topological double covers). Near the identity its section is , where is the linear inverse of the bivector adjoint action; this is the explicit construction in Local Spin lift from the matrix logarithm. The logarithm series on a smaller matrix neighborhood, the linear map , and the finite-dimensional exponential are smooth. The two sheets are and ; translations give smooth inverse branches at every point.
Proof
Given: The data above and compatible local spin frames in positive dimension. Steps 1.1–4.1 prove that case; step 5.1 supplies the zero-dimensional relative case. For the relative statement without a global Spin lift, the spin construction in steps 1.1–2.1 is used only on local frame charts with their trivial Spin lifts.
The logarithm series and each of its derivatives converge uniformly on smaller closed matrix balls, so the section in [F5] is smooth into the ambient Clifford algebra. The two covering sheets give local charts on Spin; the projection is smooth by finite-dimensional Clifford multiplication and inversion, and translating the sheets gives compatible smooth inverse branches. In principal charts the equivariant map is with continuous , so it is a two-sheeted covering by [F5]. Every smooth local oriented orthonormal frame section therefore has continuous lifts after shrinking its domain. By [F0] and full AC choose countably many such domains covering , with a smooth frame section and a continuous lift on each. Their continuous Spin transitions lift the smooth frame transitions . At each point, translate the local logarithm/exponential section in [F5] to a smooth inverse branch of near . After restricting to a connected neighborhood, the continuous lift agrees with one of the two inverse branches, so is smooth. The resulting principal charts have smooth transitions and define a smooth structure on the actual supplied lift. This structure is Hausdorff because the base is Hausdorff and each fiber is separated in a product chart. It is second-countable because it is covered by countably many charts and the finite-dimensional Clifford group is second-countable. The right action is smooth in these charts. Realify the smooth complex representation . The associated-bundle theorem [F2] now applies to this smooth, second-countable principal bundle. Multiplication by commutes with , so it descends to a smooth endomorphism with and the associated charts are complex-linear; the Spin-invariant chirality operator and its eigenspaces descend as well.
Start with any positive Hermitian form on and average it over the finite group of signed monomials in the negative-square generators . Each generator becomes unitary; since its square is , its adjoint is its negative. Real linearity then makes every skew-Hermitian, and unit vectors act unitarily. The positive generators are , so their unit-vector products, and hence the full-even Spin action, are unitary too. Chirality is unitary and has square one, hence is selfadjoint. Thus this one form is both Clifford-compatible and Spin-invariant, and descends to a smooth associated Hermitian metric. Averaging over Spin alone would not ensure the vector adjoint relation. Let be the local -valued Levi–Civita connection matrix and let be its lift to . The connection matrices obey the frame-change law [F3], so they glue uniquely. In the positive-square cover, the infinitesimal lift of an orthogonal matrix is the negative Clifford bivector; substitution cancels that sign and gives the local spin action . Expanding the Clifford relation gives , so the lifted connection intertwines the defining action and Clifford multiplication. Thus the glued spin connection is unitary, preserves chirality, and is Clifford-compatible.
Locally the complex Clifford algebra in even dimension is a full matrix algebra by [F1]. Its matrix idempotents split into smooth subbundles and its matrix units identify those subbundles, giving a smooth evaluation isomorphism with . The induced multiplicity grading is , so . In a local factorization the difference commutes with Clifford multiplication, because both connections are Clifford-compatible. The full matrix algebra has commutant , so this difference uniquely defines a smooth multiplicity connection ; it is unitary and preserves because both original connections are unitary and preserve their gradings. On an overlap write the change of factorization as , where is the smooth invertible multiplicity transition. The connection transformation law [F3], after subtracting the spin-connection law, gives . Choose the overlap lifts on sufficiently small overlaps. On triple overlaps they can multiply to a locally constant sign ; since the transitions of satisfy the cocycle identity and , the corresponding transitions multiply to . Thus a global multiplicity bundle is not asserted without a global Spin lift. Conjugation by , however, satisfies the cocycle identity, and the displayed local connection laws are consistent because . Their curvature satisfies , with by [F4], so and is genuinely a global commutant-valued curvature.
On overlaps, and is preserved, so is invariant and patches to a global even form. The Bianchi identity follows directly from the local connection matrix: for , expansion gives . Cyclicity of supertrace then shows that the relative character is closed. For a path of compatible connections with commutant-valued difference , one has ; applying Bianchi and cyclicity gives , with . The transgression forms also conjugate by on overlaps, so they patch. This supplies the relative cohomological interpretation for a fixed geometric module, including when no global spinor bundle exists. For with its product connection, the spin connection contributes and the twist contributes , so and the relative supertrace is the ordinary trace on the ungraded .
In dimension zero, use with from The A-hat form and relative Chern character. The Clifford algebra is the scalar algebra, so evaluation identifies with . Its grading is , making evaluation even. Every two-form is zero; thus both the spin and multiplicity curvatures are zero. On a discrete manifold these pointwise maps are smooth, the reference sign and the graded dimensions are locally constant, and the relative character patches globally. For with even, is even and the character is its rank. This establishes the relative statement at every signed point without a Spin lift; all connection overlap, Bianchi and transgression equations there reduce to zero identities.
