How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Neutral point sources and Fourier data on a three-dimensional torus
Definition
Let , let , let , and let . These are the full-rank lattice and covolume conventions of Full-rank lattices, covolume, and the dual lattice. The reciprocal lattice is . For write Thus is a character of ; the ordinary Fourier frequency is , while is the angular physical frequency.
A finite point-source configuration consists of an integer , points that are pairwise distinct when , and real charges . It is neutral when . For a smooth periodic test function , the point-source distribution is the linear functional Here smooth means that the periodic lift to has continuous derivatives of every order, and the test-function topology is generated by the seminorms over all derivative multi-indices . A periodic distribution is a continuous complex-linear functional for this topology. Its distributional Laplacian is defined by .
For a smooth periodic , its Fourier coefficient is The source coefficient is in particular, neutral data have . For a periodic distribution , define . The mean-zero periodic Poisson solution is a periodic distribution satisfying and . This definition fixes the zero-mode convention; no nonneutral periodic solution is implicit.
The Coulomb energy convention is the half-sum of each source charge times the regular part of its potential, after subtracting its own singular term . The resulting finite part is called the renormalized self-energy convention. Its Ewald formula is established in this development.
Remarks
- The Coulomb normalization is in three dimensions. No dielectric factor, surface term, nonneutralizing background, or alternative boundary condition is part of this definition.
- The dual lattice in the Poisson formula uses exponent ; multiplying its frequency by gives .

19 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
