How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Lowest-order Nedelec edge circulation unisolvence
Statement
On an oriented tetrahedron with vertices , let for . Then the six edge circulations satisfy . The six functions form a basis of the local space , so these edge circulations are unisolvent degrees of freedom.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The local edge shape functions, oriented edge circulations, and the first-family lowest-order local Nedelec space from Lowest-order Whitney and Nedelec de Rham spaces.
On each tetrahedron, and the local edge space is their span. (Lowest-order Whitney and Nedelec de Rham spaces)
Proof
Parametrize the oriented edge by , . Along it, , , so and . Therefore , and .
Let be a different edge. If it shares no endpoint with , then both and vanish identically along , so its circulation is zero. If it shares , then vanishes identically along that edge and its directional derivative also vanishes; the remaining term is zero. The case sharing is symmetric. Thus whenever .
Each is affine in . Its linear part is the skew-symmetric map , hence equals for a unique ; its constant part is a vector . The space has dimension six: if on the open tetrahedron, subtracting the values at two points shows for every , so and then . The six functions are linearly independent because their circulation matrix is the identity by steps 1.1 and 2.1. They therefore form a basis of this six-dimensional space, and the six moments are unisolvent.

An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
