How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The degenerate cyclotomic Hecke tower and its residue functors
Definition
Assume inherited AC The Axiom of Choice for the invoked cyclotomic PBW/Skryabin and category-O single-block suppliers; the explicit finite spectral and centre computations below introduce no additional choice.
Fix a nonempty set of consecutive integers (possibly all of or half-infinite), put , fix a level and an integral multicharge with , and let be the corresponding dominant integral weight. Throughout, the ground field is and the degree- degenerate cyclotomic Hecke algebra is defined by and, for , by the algebra of The degenerate cyclotomic Hecke algebra: the quotient of the degenerate affine Hecke algebra by the relation , with -basis over , , and for . At the basis is the singleton empty word and the dimension is ; there is no and no cyclotomic relation to impose. The commute pairwise in every positive degree.
(1) Joint spectral idempotents and content idempotents. For let be the joint polynomial spectral idempotent of that projects onto the generalized joint eigenspace with generalized eigenvalues ; these idempotents are those of Stable range and block idempotent corner for higher-level Schur-Weyl duality, they lie in the commutative subalgebra generated by , are mutually orthogonal, sum to the identity of , and all but finitely many are zero. For with put
Because is finite (so only finitely many nonzero occur in it), is an idempotent of , nonzero or zero, and is a finite-dimensional algebra with identity . Its (finite dimensional, unital) left modules are exactly the -modules on which acts as the identity.
(2) The supported degree and the tower. The degree- supported tower algebra is with ; for this is in general a proper central cut of the whole degree- algebra , and no equality with is asserted. The tower is
It is a unital algebra when is finite and a locally unital algebra in general; the ambient tower inclusion is the degree-raising embedding of Hecke induction and restriction functors on degenerate cyclotomic blocks. At level the tower is concentrated in degree : and for .
(3) Grothendieck groups and the Cartan pairing. For each let range over representatives of the simple finite-dimensional -modules and over their projective covers. The module Grothendieck group is the Grothendieck group of the category of finite-dimensional -modules (Grothendieck group of an essentially small abelian category) and the split projective group is the split Grothendieck group of finite-dimensional projective modules (Split Grothendieck group of an additive category); both are taken block by block and then summed over . The Cartan pairing
is the object-level Hom pairing of Projective–module Hom pairing on class generators; its biadditivity on the two groups is the descent proved in Projective and simple classes are dual bases under splitting, which also shows that and are dual bases (over every simple endomorphism ring is ). Different blocks are orthogonal.
(4) Residue maps and residue functors. For and the embedding composed with the projection onto the block is the non-unital algebra homomorphism
The residue restriction functor sends a finite-dimensional -module to the vector space viewed as an -module through , and the residue induction functor sends a finite-dimensional -module to . Their well-definedness, exactness, biadjointness, compatibility with the duality of (5), and their effect on Grothendieck groups (adjoint operators for the Cartan pairing, by Exact adjoints induce adjoint operators on Grothendieck groups) are the content of Hecke induction and restriction functors on degenerate cyclotomic blocks; summing over gives endofunctors of the tower.
(5) Duality. The anti-automorphism of with and preserves each . On finite-dimensional left -modules put with left action . This duality commutes with the residue functors by Hecke induction and restriction functors on degenerate cyclotomic blocks and fixes every simple module by the Schur duality comparison proved in step 4.1 below. It is used throughout this page in the form .
(6) Stable and admissible data. A charge datum as above is used in the form of its admissible stable realization of Stable range and block idempotent corner for higher-level Schur-Weyl duality; stable range means at least Jordan strings of maximal length , and admissibility means implies for the origin . For an integral multicharge the relevant stable realization can be chosen with column heights, , and , after choosing sufficiently low. All are equal, so this is an actually admissible origin, and gives exactly the asserted roots. The classical tensor natural-module dimension is , distinguished from the row count . These hypotheses are only invoked where the corresponding supplier is used; the definitions (1)-(5) themselves do not assume them.
Remarks
(a) Why the cut is a cut. Take , level and , so that with and by the level-one instance of The degenerate cyclotomic Hecke algebra. The eigenvalues of on are , so and , although the whole degree- algebra is two-dimensional. The supported central cut is therefore genuinely smaller than the degree, and no identity is used anywhere on this page. See Degenerate Ariki decomposition numbers in small rank ↗ for the full height-two window.
(b) Single blocks. Let be nonzero and such that . Then has no nontrivial central idempotent: it is a single block. This is not immediate from the orbit-sum description of (a sum of orthogonal idempotents over an orbit is central, but centrality alone does not make it primitive) and is proved in the proof below from the actual suppliers: the stable Schur-Weyl endomorphism isomorphism, full faithfulness on all projectives and the single-linkage property of the corresponding genuine parabolic block.
(c) Choice. The imported suppliers cited in the proof (Type-A tableau central summands are single linkage blocks, The higher-level Schur-Weyl endomorphism isomorphism, The Whittaker functor is exact and fully faithful on the required projectives) are proved under the Axiom of Choice; that assumption is inherited by the single block statement of (b), and no further choice is made in this item: all selections below are among the finitely many isomorphism classes of simples of a finite-dimensional algebra.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The inherited Axiom of Choice and a nonempty consecutive set , a level , an integral multicharge , and with the empty-word projector . For , use the algebra of The degenerate cyclotomic Hecke algebra with its commuting generators satisfying and its isomorphism in the admissible stable realization supplied by The higher-level Schur-Weyl endomorphism isomorphism. We prove the single-block property (b), as announced in the Remarks; rank zero is the ground-field block directly.
Pairwise comaximal ideals of a commutative ring satisfy the Chinese remainder isomorphism (Chinese remainder theorem for pairwise comaximal ideals).
Proof
Per-position polynomial projectors and integer spectra. At rank zero, has no polynomial generators, the sole empty-word projector and content projector are , and the sector is the single ground-field block with its usual vector duality. Thus all rank-zero assertions follow directly; the spectral argument below concerns . The finite-dimensional algebra has a faithful regular representation. For adjacent dots put and . The native cross relations give , and . On a generalized joint weight whose adjacent entries differ by neither nor , is invertible by a finite nilpotent geometric series; hence the swapped weight is nonzero. If any entry of a nonzero weight is not integral, move its leftmost nonintegral entry left across all preceding integral entries. The swaps are invertible, but the resulting first entry contradicts . Thus all spectra are integral. For each position separately choose an annihilator from its finite regular spectrum, with sufficient. Chinese remainder interpolation gives mutually orthogonal polynomial projectors summing to one. Their products give exactly the simultaneous generalized-weight projectors on every finite module; algebra identities follow from regular faithfulness. There is no assertion that the first-position cyclotomic polynomial annihilates other dots.
The content-block centre comparison. In an admissible stable realization the actual endomorphism theorem identifies with . Choose , where is a projective generator of its genuine category-O block, and put and . Full faithfulness on projectives identifies with , and contains the regular left module . No projectivity of all of over is assumed.
The exact centre calculation. A central endomorphism of commutes with the projection onto its direct summand , so it restricts on to right multiplication . Commuting with every forces . For each , extend the map , , by zero on the chosen complement of in . Commutation with this endomorphism gives ; evaluation at one gives . Conversely multiplication by central commutes with every -map. These constructions are inverse, proving , and passage to opposite rings preserves centres. The stated Choice assumption is inherited only for the category- suppliers.
Central content interpolation. Symmetric polynomials in the dots commute with crossings by the native cross relations, because commutes with and and with all other dots; these generate the elementary symmetric polynomials. Their elementary symmetric values distinguish the finitely many different multisets of generalized joint eigenvalues. Finite Chinese remainder interpolation in these symmetric operators therefore gives a central multiset projector. Its action on every regular generalized weight is one precisely on that multiset, so it equals the orbit sum of the per-position projectors from step 1.1. This argument does not require the annihilating polynomials for different positions to be equal.
A single linkage block has no split central idempotent. is a single linkage block by Type-A tableau central summands are single linkage blocks: it admits no decomposition into two nonzero orthogonal factors. A central idempotent of with would split the projective generator into two nonzero summands whose Hom-spaces in both directions vanish, because every morphism between them is annihilated by composing with on either side in the two possible orders; this exhibits as the product of the two nonzero full subcategories generated by these summands, contradicting single-linkage. Hence has no nontrivial idempotent, and by step 1.2 the same holds for : the stable content component is a single block.
Symmetric polynomials in the are central. It suffices to show that the elementary symmetric functions in the are fixed by conjugation with each basic transposition , since these generate the symmetric polynomials and commute with all with . The defining cross relations of The degenerate cyclotomic Hecke algebra give and ; multiplying the first by on the left yields , and the second yields . Consequently and , so the two elementary generators in the pair are fixed, and makes the same true for every polynomial in them; together with the commuting generators this fixes every symmetric polynomial. Comparing with step 2.1, commutes with every and every , hence is central in .
An intrinsic block in a stable realization. Fix of height for any admitted consecutive . Choose an integer below all its residue supports and all charges, with and , and put , , and . These heights are nonincreasing and the common origin is admissible; the cyclotomic roots of this stable realization are exactly . Its algebra is therefore the very same presentation , with the same named generators. The joint polynomial projectors of step 1.1 are uniquely determined by their regular generalized eigenspaces, so its projector for the fixed multiset is exactly , independently of the auxiliary lower endpoint or the ambient residue interval. The stable endomorphism supplier thus identifies this exact algebra with , and step 2.2 proves (b). For any finite list of residue operations choose stable for every occurring degree and below every occurring residue; the same identity of presentations in adjacent degrees fixes , the projectors , and their induction/restriction bimodules. This uses no equivalence between different category- cuts and no transport of Specht modules.
Simple-preserving duality. In the stable finite realization, the proof paragraph Simple images and standard heads of The Whittaker functor is exact and fully faithful on the required projectives identifies every Hecke simple with for a standard label. Restricted category- duality fixes , as recorded in The integral parabolic category-O blocks for higher-level Schur-Weyl duality, and the paragraph The actual duality comparison of the Whittaker supplier proves . Hence . The intrinsic block identity of step 3.2 preserves the generator-fixing anti-involution, so the same conclusion holds for arbitrary admitted . Commutation with residue functors alone would not establish this simple-preserving assertion.
Zero components and local units. Centrality does not exclude : steps 2.2 and 3.2 prove primitivity only for nonzero components and do not assert that every content occurs. Suppose . For any nonzero supported component choose the stable realization of step 3.2 with . The nonzero object has a simple constituent, hence a strict-column label of weight by The integral parabolic category-O blocks for higher-level Schur-Weyl duality. In this realization the ground column consists of the letters . Since is supported on and , the multiplicity of every letter in is , and that of every letter above is zero. Strictness allows each letter at most once per column, so every lower letter occurs in all columns and no upper letter occurs. Delete the common lower letters. The remaining columns have the fixed heights and entries in the finite alphabet . Only finitely many such tableaux exist, independently of and ; their entry multisets determine uniquely, since the simple roots are linearly independent. Consequently only finitely many supported components are nonzero, and the sum of their identities is a unit of the tower. For arbitrary , finite sums of component identities are local units because every element of the direct sum has finite component support.
Level zero and the vanishing witness. At level the cyclotomic polynomial is the empty product , so for and only remains; this is the convention of (2). For the witness, , level , charge , : the level-one presentation gives and , so with eigenvalues for ; hence , , and the supported component is , while . This completes the proof of the two claims (b) and the level- convention; the exactness and biadjointness clauses of (4) are the declared supplier statements of Hecke induction and restriction functors on degenerate cyclotomic blocks, not reproved here.
