How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
KL-neighborhood prior mass lower-bounds the likelihood denominator
Statement
Let be a prior probability on , let be the measurable relative KL neighborhood from KL projection sets and relative KL neighborhoods, and suppose . Assume the log likelihood ratios are -integrable for -almost every . For every satisfies for all sufficiently large , -almost surely. Under the stated jointly measurable dominated model, is also finite and positive -almost surely for each .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A jointly measurable dominated IID density model, a proper prior , a finite KL minimum , and a measurable set of positive prior mass on which and the log likelihood contrast is integrable.
Assume AC for the imported KL and likelihood-density conventions The Axiom of Choice. All density representatives in the model are supplied jointly, so no additional selection is made.
Kullback–Leibler divergence: KL is unless ; when finite, its logarithmic Radon–Nikodym integrand is integrable.
Likelihood-tilted measures at a KL projection: the relative likelihood is on and zero on its -null complement.
Tonelli's theorem for nonnegative measurable functions on a sigma-finite product: nonnegative jointly measurable functions on sigma-finite product spaces may be integrated in either order, with measurable section integrals.
Kolmogorov iid l1 strong law: for IID integrable real variables, their sample mean tends almost surely to their expectation.
Measurable coordinatewise functions preserve independence: measurable coordinatewise functions of an independent family remain independent.
Probability measures and probability spaces: and have total mass one.
The measure with density relative to : a nonnegative measurable density integrates to the measure it defines; in particular the supplied model densities integrate to one.
Independent random elements have product joint law: the joint law of a finite independent vector is the product of its coordinate laws.
Measures agreeing on a generating pi-system are equal under an increasing finite-measure exhaustion from that pi-system: measures agreeing on a generating pi-system and a finite-measure exhaustion agree on the generated sigma-algebra.
A nonnegative measurable function with finite integral is finite almost everywhere: a nonnegative measurable function with finite integral is finite almost everywhere.
Arithmetic and lattice operations preserve measurability whenever they are defined: arithmetic and lattice operations preserve measurability.
Composition with a Borel measurable outer map preserves measurability: composition of a measurable function with a Borel function is measurable when the composition is defined.
Fatou's lemma: for nonnegative measurable functions, .
Coordinate maps and permutations are measurable on finite products: coordinate maps on a finite product are measurable, so the coordinate likelihood products are product-measurable.
Likelihood densities: each supplied model density is nonnegative, measurable, and integrates to one relative to .
For sigma-finite factors, the product measure exists, has the rectangle formula, is sigma-finite, and is unique: finite products of sigma-finite measures exist, are sigma-finite, and have the rectangle formula.
Proof
Given: The hypotheses and conventions in the Statement.
The jointly measurable finite-valued densities and [F12], [F13] make measurable. The density formula gives exactly when ; Tonelli [F4] makes this condition measurable in . On this measurable set, the extended log-density parts defining are product-measurable and Tonelli makes their section integrals measurable; outside it the KL value is by [F2]. Thus and are measurable. By [F1], for -almost every , Both KL values are finite on this set, so [F2] makes the log ratio integrable.
For each fixed in this full-prior subset of , are IID integrable real variables: the data are IID and [F6] preserves independence under the measurable log-ratio map. By [F5], The event of this convergence is jointly measurable in . Tonelli [F4] applied to the indicator of its failure, under , therefore gives a -full event on which convergence holds for -almost every .
For fixed , the finite product measures and exist by [F17]. The nonnegative jointly measurable likelihood is product-measurable by [F15] and integrates to one over for every , by [F16] and repeated integration. Tonelli [F4] therefore gives Let . By [F11], -almost everywhere. The sample vector has law by [F9]. Its product density relative to is : repeated Tonelli gives this density's rectangle formula, and [F10] identifies the resulting measure with . Therefore -almost surely.
For -almost every , finite KL gives by [F2], so almost surely for each coordinate. The coordinate products are measurable by [F15]; Tonelli [F4] applied to the indicator of a zero likelihood shows that, for -almost every sample, for every for -almost every . Since , . Finally, is finite and positive -almost surely, so the relative denominator is finite and positive -almost surely.
Fix and choose with . On the event from step 1.2, for -almost every the log likelihood average is eventually greater than . Therefore Fatou's lemma [F14] for the nonnegative integrands gives since . Hence eventually.
Steps 1.3–2.2 establish finite-positive evidence, and step 2.2 establishes the eventual exponential lower bound asserted in the Statement.
