How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Quasicoherent modules are filtered unions of coherent subsheaves and cohomology commutes with these colimits
Statement
Assume the Axiom of Choice. Let be the projective flag variety of Complex semisimple algebraic group, Borel, and flag variety, and let be a quasi-coherent -module. Then is the filtered union of its coherent -submodules. If is any filtered colimit of quasi-coherent modules, then for every the canonical map is an isomorphism.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The Axiom of Choice, the projective flag variety , a quasi-coherent module , and, for the second assertion, a filtered diagram in with colimit .
is a Noetherian, quasi-compact separated scheme; its highest-weight orbit construction embeds it as a closed subvariety of a projective space, so the restricted is very ample and its standard opens give a finite affine cover (A semisimple flag variety is smooth and projective, Projective orbit constructions for G/B and G/P_alpha, Relative very ampleness in the finite projective-space convention).
On an affine open , quasi-coherent modules are associated sheaves of -modules; sections commute with filtered colimits under this equivalence (Affine quasi-coherent sheaves are modules, Quasi-coherent module on a scheme).
On a locally Noetherian scheme, a quasi-coherent module of finite type is coherent (Coherent sheaves on a locally Noetherian scheme, Coherent module sheaves, Locally Noetherian and Noetherian schemes).
The finite affine cover in [F1] computes quasi-coherent cohomology by its ordered Cech complex (Cech cohomology computes quasi-coherent cohomology on a separated scheme).
Filtered colimits of abelian groups are exact and commute with the cohomology of a cochain complex (Filtered colimits of abelian groups are exact).
Proof
Choose a very ample embedding and its standard affine cover . For a section , each overlap is the principal open in the affine . By [F2] write for some . There are finitely many , so choose a common and replace each numerator by , so its denominator is now . With as the frame of on , the section of extends from to . On an overlap , the two extensions agree after inverting , because both restrict to there. Their difference is therefore killed by some power of in the quasi-coherent module of sections on that affine overlap. There are finitely many overlaps, so one further common power kills all differences; multiplying every local extension by that power of makes them agree and they glue to a global section of whose restriction to is . Thus each local section on a standard chart is locally in the image of a global map .
Take the direct sum of the maps produced by [step 1.1] for all standard charts and all their local sections. At every stalk this map is surjective because the standard charts cover and their sections generate the associated modules. Hence is the union of the images of finite subsums: the indexing set of finite subsums is filtered, their transition maps are inclusions, and their colimit is the image of the surjection. Each finite subsum is a finite direct sum of invertible sheaves, so its image is a finite-type quasi-coherent submodule of ; it is coherent by [F3]. This proves the first assertion.
Fix the finite affine cover from [F1]. Every finite intersection is affine, and [F2] identifies sections on it with module sections; these sections commute with the filtered colimit. Therefore the ordered Cech complex of is the degreewise filtered colimit of the ordered Cech complexes of . The cover computes sheaf cohomology by [F4], and exactness of filtered colimits in [F5] gives for every . The finite cover and degreewise finite sums are essential; no interchange with an infinite product is used.
