How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Stable-flag incidence spaces admit the oriented proper correspondence calculus
Statement
Assume the Axiom of Choice (The Axiom of Choice), inherited through the smooth-projective flag-variety and Euler-to-Chern suppliers. Let be any finite loopless quiver, allowing multiple arrows and arrows in both directions, let be finite-dimensional over , and put and . For a word of vertex labels with multiplicities , let be its graded complete flag variety and . Then is a complex algebraic vector bundle, is smooth, and is projective. Every middle-forgetting projection is proper. All orientations and refined middle-diagonal operations required by the preceding Ext/convolution theorems exist equivariantly, without a smoothness or transversality assertion for fiber products. With and , those theorems apply in every corner. Smooth vector-bundle projections and flag-bundle projections have their complex-oriented pullbacks, and zero-section self-intersection is cap product with the top Chern class of the bundle.

Given: the Axiom of Choice; a finite loopless quiver ; finite-dimensional complex vector spaces ; the word with multiplicities ; the groups ; the spaces , and of the Statement; and the correspondence calculus of Equivariant Borel–Moore homology and oriented correspondence convolution, Proper-pushforward Ext is equivariant Borel–Moore homology of the fiber product and Verdier-duality identification intertwines Yoneda product and oriented convolution.
Complex-oriented diagonal Thom classes realize exceptional exchange on supports and Constructible six functors, proper base change and normalized equivariant duality supply the complex orientations, the refined middle-diagonal Thom operation on arbitrary closed supports, the proper traces and their projection/base-change compatibility, and the equivariant form with the normalized dualizing object, under The Axiom of Choice.
The items Equivariant Borel–Moore homology and oriented correspondence convolution, Proper-pushforward Ext is equivariant Borel–Moore homology of the fiber product and Verdier-duality identification intertwines Yoneda product and oriented convolution supply the stated correspondence calculus for proper -equivariant maps with smooth pure-dimensional sources, including the degree shifts and the corner isomorphisms, with no transversality hypothesis.
The variety of complete flags of a finite-dimensional vector space is smooth projective supplies, under The Axiom of Choice, the smooth projective complete flag variety of a finite-dimensional complex vector space and its affine charts; for a zero-dimensional space the flag variety is a point. Algebraically constructible sheaves have finite compatible stratified and local cochain models supplies finite CW-type models of the finite-type flag and bundle approximations, so the Euler-to-top-Chern identification applies componentwise to them.
Top Chern class equals Euler class of the underlying real bundle identifies, under AC, the top Chern class and the Euler class of a numerable complex bundle over a path-connected CW complex; it is applied to the CW-type approximations of [F3].
Closed immersions are proper says closed immersions are proper, Finite-dimensional projective space is proper over every base says is proper, and Products of nonempty projective varieties exist as projective varieties supplies projective products via the Segre embedding. Properness is stable under composition by Properness survives composition and under base change by Properness survives arbitrary base change, with AC declared. The definition of properness is Proper morphisms.
The Axiom of Choice is inherited through the suppliers of [F1]–[F5]; the incidence, dimension and orientation computations of the proof are choice-free (The Axiom of Choice).
Proof
Incidence as an associated bundle. A zero-dimensional has the unique empty flag, so its flag variety and group factor are points. Fix a graded reference flag. Its stabilizer is the product of the upper triangular subgroups of the individual , and by the transitive action of [F3] its orbit is , a product of smooth projective flag varieties, so is smooth projective. On an ordinary flag chart choose ordered basis vectors compatible with the flags; the stability condition for an arrow says that the matrix coefficient of from source position to target position vanishes whenever , positions being read in the full word . Over the chart the fiber of is therefore the fixed linear subspace of tuples whose entries vanish in the forbidden positions, of dimension the sum over arrows of the number of allowed pairs; the stabilizer preserves and the chart trivializations identify as a complex algebraic vector bundle over . Multiple arrows contribute separate summands, and arrows in both directions impose conditions on separate matrices.
Smoothness, projectivity and properness. By step 1.1 the total space is the total space of a vector bundle over the smooth variety , hence is smooth of pure complex dimension . The incidence conditions are polynomial in the chart coordinates, so is closed in , and is the composite of this closed immersion with the product projection. Since is a closed subvariety of a product of projective spaces by [F3], the product projection is a closed subvariety of a trivial projective-space bundle over the affine space , so it is projective, and passing to the closed subvariety keeps it projective; by [F5] a projective morphism over the affine base is proper. The middle-forgetting map is the base change of along the projection , hence proper by the base-change stability in [F5], although neither its fibers nor its total space is asserted smooth.
Orientations and equivariance. Each is smooth by step 2.1, with its complex orientation and diagonal normal bundle . The supported Thom operation of [F1] therefore gives the refined middle-diagonal operation on all fiber products, and step 2.1 supplies the proper traces. These are -equivariant constructions, descending to the Stiefel models with the stabilization comparisons of Cartesian simplicial sheaves model actual equivariant derived Hom. Thus [F2] applies with shift . On a Stiefel quotient the graded flags are nested subspaces of the fixed frame spaces, hence a closed incidence locus in a product of Grassmannians, projective by the same incidence equations and projective-product construction as step 2.1. The incidence approximation is the associated vector bundle of step 1.1 over that projective base. Fiber scaling retracts its total to the zero section, so [F3] applied to the projective base gives CW type for the total. The base has a metric from its finite-polyhedral model. A finite trivializing cover of the compact base admits a partition of unity supported inside its charts; multiplying the local vector coordinates by these functions embeds the total bundle into the product of the base with a finite-dimensional vector space, giving the total a metric as well.
Zero sections and relative orientations. The complex bundles on the metric approximations of step 3.1 have finite trivializing covers. For a finite trivializing cover of a metric space , put , using when , and . The continuous functions have positive sum and support contained in ; normalizing their sum gives a subordinate finite numeration. Hence the Thom/Euler clause of [F1] applies. Zero-section self-intersection is cap product with the Euler class. Pulling back along a CW-model homotopy equivalence and using naturality identifies it with the top Chern class by [F4], componentwise; extend the integral identity to . A smooth vector-bundle or flag-bundle projection of relative complex dimension locally has the product duality formula . Complex transition maps preserve the fiber orientation, so these formulas glue and give the oriented Borel–Moore pullback of degree . Projection formula and the trace/base-change mates of [F1] give compatibility with proper pushforward and refined Cartesian pullback, without asserting ordinary purity on singular fiber products. These are the calculus operations, rather than numerical crossing formulas. AC is inherited through [A1].
