How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Weakly closed nonlinear forward maps on Hilbert spaces
Definition
Let and be real Hilbert spaces, let be nonempty, and let be a forward map. The domain is weakly closed when it is closed in the weak topology , the coarsest topology making every bounded real-linear functional on continuous. The graph of is sequentially weak-to-weak closed when, for every sequence in and every and , the conditions and imply and ; here weak convergence means convergence under every bounded real-linear functional on the corresponding Hilbert space. We call a weakly closed forward map when its domain is weakly closed and its graph is sequentially weak-to-weak closed. No linearity, norm continuity, Fréchet differentiability, or convexity is assumed; linear maps are allowed as special cases.

Given: Real Hilbert spaces , a weakly closed forward map , a datum , a sequence in , and .
Sequential weak-to-weak graph closure means that , , and imply and (Weakly closed nonlinear forward maps on Hilbert spaces).
Weak convergence is convergence in the weak topology; in particular, a constant sequence with value converges weakly to (Weak convergence of nets and sequences).
Proof
Since , each lies in and . Thus is the constant sequence at , so it converges weakly to by [F2].
Apply [F1] to and . It follows that and , hence . This is the asserted sequential weak closedness.

Given: The ultrafilter lemma, dependent choice, and HB; real Hilbert spaces ; a nonempty weakly closed domain ; a map with sequentially weak-to-weak closed graph; , , and .
The ultrafilter lemma says every filter on a set extends to an ultrafilter (The ultrafilter extension principle (UL/BPI)).
Dependent choice supplies an infinite sequence following any everywhere-extendible relation (The axiom of dependent choice: a relation in which every element is related to something admits an -indexed chain).
HB is the real dominated-extension principle for linear functionals (The real dominated-extension principle as an additional hypothesis over ZF).
DC implies countable choice, the principle that every countable family of nonempty sets admits a choice function (Dependent choice implies countable choice, The Axiom of Countable Choice ()).
Under countable choice, every complete real inner-product space is reflexive (Hilbert spaces are reflexive by Riesz representation).
Under the ultrafilter lemma, DC, and HB, every bounded sequence in a real reflexive Banach space has a weakly convergent subsequence (A bounded sequence in a reflexive Banach space has a weakly convergent subsequence).
Under HB, weak convergence implies lower semicontinuity of the norm (Weak convergence implies lower semicontinuity of the norm).
Every nonempty real set bounded below has an infimum, and if , then for every some satisfies (Greatest lower bound (infimum), Every nonempty set bounded below has an infimum, Epsilon characterisation of the infimum).
The objective is the finite nonnegative sum on (The nonlinear Tikhonov functional).
Sequential graph closure identifies a joint weak limit: if , , and , then and (Weakly closed nonlinear forward maps on Hilbert spaces).
Proof
Let . The set of objective values is nonempty because , is bounded below by , and contains a finite value. Thus is a finite real number by [F5].
For each , [F5] gives with . Since DC implies countable choice by [F1], choose these points as a sequence; then .
The sequence of objective values is bounded above, say by . Nonnegativity of both summands in [F6] and give and . The triangle inequality then bounds , and the first estimate together with fixed bounds .
By [F2], and are real reflexive Banach spaces: they are complete inner-product spaces, and DC supplies the countable choice assumed in [F2] by [F1]. Apply [F3] to the bounded sequence to obtain a subsequence ; apply [F3] in to the bounded sequence and pass to a further subsequence so that . The further subsequence still has .
By [F7], and . Subtracting the fixed vector preserves weak convergence, so , while .
Apply [F4] to the two weakly convergent sequences in step 5.1. The maps and are increasing and continuous on , so each squared-norm term is lower semicontinuous. If their limit values are and , then for every each sequence term is eventually at least its limit value minus ; taking the larger of the two eventual indices gives . Thus . Since , the definition of gives , so equality holds and is a global minimizer.
Remarks
The theorem guarantees global minimizers, not uniqueness. The sequential weak-to-weak graph condition is needed to identify the weak limit of the data sequence; weak-to-strong closedness alone would not identify a merely weak data limit. The direct method makes no claim that a numerical algorithm finds a global minimizer; nonlinear objectives may also have local minima.

Given: The ultrafilter lemma, DC, and HB; real Hilbert spaces ; a weakly closed forward map ; a nonempty exact solution set ; and .
The ultrafilter lemma says every filter on a set extends to an ultrafilter (The ultrafilter extension principle (UL/BPI)).
DC supplies an infinite sequence following any everywhere-extendible relation (The axiom of dependent choice: a relation in which every element is related to something admits an -indexed chain).
HB is the real dominated-extension principle (The real dominated-extension principle as an additional hypothesis over ZF).
The exact solution set is weakly sequentially closed (The exact solution set of a weakly closed map is weakly sequentially closed).
DC implies countable choice, the principle that every countable family of nonempty sets admits a choice function (Dependent choice implies countable choice, The Axiom of Countable Choice ()); every complete real inner-product space is reflexive under that principle (Hilbert spaces are reflexive by Riesz representation).
On a nonempty weakly sequentially closed subset of a real reflexive Banach space, a proper coercive weakly sequentially lower-semicontinuous functional attains its infimum under the ultrafilter lemma, DC, and HB (The direct method in a reflexive Banach space).
Under HB, weak convergence implies lower semicontinuity of the norm (Weak convergence implies lower semicontinuity of the norm).
An extended-real functional on a nonempty admissible set is proper when it is finite somewhere; coercivity is equivalent to bounded sublevel sets; weak sequential lower semicontinuity is the liminf inequality along weakly convergent sequences (Proper, coercive and weakly lower semicontinuous extended-real functionals).
An -minimum-norm solution is an exact solution whose distance to is no greater than that of any other exact solution in (-minimum-norm solutions on weakly closed domains).
Proof
Given: The assumptions above.
Let . It is nonempty by hypothesis and weakly sequentially closed by [F1]. Define by . This is finite everywhere on , so it is proper. Its sublevel set is empty for and, for , satisfies by the triangle inequality. Hence is coercive on .
If and , then . By [F4], ; since norms are nonnegative and squaring is increasing and continuous there, . Thus is weakly sequentially lower semicontinuous on .
By [F2], countable choice follows from the assumed DC, so the real Hilbert space is reflexive; it is Banach by completeness in the Hilbert-space definition. The nonempty set is weakly sequentially closed by step 1.1, and is proper, coercive, and weakly sequentially lower semicontinuous by steps 1.1 and 2.1. Apply [F3], whose choice assumptions are exactly [A1], [A2], and [A3], to obtain minimizing on .
Since and the square function is increasing on nonnegative reals, minimizing on is equivalent to minimizing . Thus satisfies [F6] and is an -minimum-norm exact solution.
Remarks
The theorem gives existence, not uniqueness: a nonlinear exact solution set need not have a unique point at minimum distance from . The use of DC also supplies the countable choice assumed by the Hilbert reflexivity supplier; no full axiom of choice is used.

Proof
Given: The assumptions above.
For each , [F1] makes the set of global minimizers of on nonempty. Since the family is countable and DC implies countable choice by [F2], choose for every .
Fix , possible because . Strong convergence bounds by some , and minimality gives . By [F7] and , this bounds and ; the convergent sequence is bounded, so both and are bounded.
By [F3], [F4], and the bounds in step 2.1, pass to a subsequence with and then a further subsequence with . The further subsequence still converges weakly to .
By [F6], and . Since strongly, , and .
By [F5], each norm in [F7] is weakly lower semicontinuous; composition with the increasing continuous square function on nonnegative reals preserves this property. For any , the two summand sequences are eventually at least their respective limit values minus , so their sum is eventually at least . Thus . For any , minimality gives , and the right side converges to because is fixed and . Hence . This holds for every , so is a global minimizer. Applying the same argument to any weakly convergent subsequence proves the claim for every weak cluster point.
Remarks
The conclusion is weak-cluster stability at fixed positive . Nonlinearity can prevent uniqueness, so the theorem does not assert convergence of the full sequence or strong convergence.

An -minimum-norm solution is an exact solution with least distance to among all exact solutions in (-minimum-norm solutions on weakly closed domains).
Proof
Given: The assumptions above.
By [F4], choose an -minimum-norm exact solution and put . For each , [F5] makes the set of global minimizers of nonempty; by [F1] and the assumed DC, choose one from each set.
Minimality, [F8], exactness of , and give . Consequently , so is bounded, and .
By [F2] and [F3], a subsequence satisfies . The triangle inequality and step 2.1 give . Thus strongly, hence weakly. Applying [F7] gives and .

Remarks
The fixed-positive- stability theorem concerns minimizers of one limiting functional. This vanishing-noise theorem has the separate assumptions of exact solvability, , and . It identifies weak cluster points as minimum-norm exact solutions but does not assert a unique limit.
