How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Temperley–Lieb quantum integers and quantum characteristic

Definition

Let R be a commutative ring with unit and δ∈R. Define the quantum integers by

[0]δ=0,[1]δ=1,[r+1]δ=δ[r]δ−[r−1]δ(r≥1).

The quantum characteristic of (R,δ) is the least positive integer ℓ with [ℓ]δ=0, if one exists, and ℓ=∞ otherwise. No element of R is inverted in this definition.

For q∈C× and δ=q+q−1, write [r]q=[r]δ. If q≠±1, this agrees with (qr−q−r)/(q−q−1); at q=±1 the recurrence gives [r]q=rqr−1. For complex-parameter classification, write κ=ord⁡(q2), with κ=∞ when q2 has infinite order. If q≠±1, the quantum characteristic equals κ when κ<∞ and is ∞ otherwise. At q=±1, κ=1 but the complex quantum characteristic is ∞, because [r]q=rqr−1≠0 for every positive r.

For a field K of positive characteristic p, set p(0)=1 and, when ℓ<∞, set p(i)=ℓpi−1 for i≥1. In characteristic zero and finite ℓ, the finite digit scale is p(1)=ℓ; the separate characteristic-zero criterion below uses aℓ−1 for arbitrary positive integers a. If ℓ=∞, every finite index is already in the range n<ℓ.

Remarks

The loop parameter δ is fixed independently of a choice of square root or of q. The complex semisimplicity theorem uses κ=ord⁡(q2), including its separate order-one case; Spencer's field criterion uses the recurrence quantum characteristic. These parameters agree for complex q≠±1, but not at q=±1.
