How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Matching affine simplicial meshes and shape regularity
Definition
Fix an integer . The underlying coordinate index set of is . In this definition the conventional labels are relabeled by : write , and let be the function on with and for . The vertex and barycentric labels are distinct from these underlying coordinate indices. The reference open simplex is with closure .
A matching affine simplicial mesh of a bounded polyhedral open set is a finite set of closed, nondegenerate -simplices such that their union is , their interiors are pairwise disjoint, is the interior of their union, and the intersection of two distinct cells is either empty or a whole face of each. Thus no lower-dimensional crack is omitted from while its surrounding cells are retained. Every interior facet is incident to exactly two cells and every boundary facet to one. The faces of a cell are the convex hulls of its vertex subsets. A facet means a face of dimension .
For each cell , an affine bijection with invertible is a reference map. Choose the vertex order so ; this is the orientation convention used for Piola formulas. Write and let be the radius of the largest Euclidean ball contained in . A family is shape regular if there is a finite such that for every and . This universal condition is vacuous for an empty family. This definition uses radius; references using the diameter of the inscribed ball differ by a factor of two.
An affine image of the reference square is a parallelogram. A general quadrilateral requires a nonaffine map and is outside this affine definition; curved-cell approximation is not included here.
