How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Gauge-fixing doublets cannot create a new polynomial class
Example
In the local Abelian BRST algebra, take the nonminimal pair with odd, ghost number , even, ghost number , and , . The polynomial is -closed, has doublet degree two, and is exact: This finite polynomial calculation illustrates removal of a doublet class. It does not establish positivity of any physical Hilbert-space quotient.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: The nonminimal BRST pair and the doublet homotopy.
Abelian local jet BRST differential: is odd with ghost number , is even with ghost number , and , .
Nilpotence and contraction of nonminimal doublets: for this pair, , , and .
Verification
Given: [F1]–[F2].
Since is even, the graded Leibniz rule gives , so is -closed.
Because is odd, . Thus is exact with primitive , whose ghost number is .
The operator counts the two factors of , so , while . Therefore , agreeing with the general contraction of [F2]. This is an algebraic polynomial identity and makes no statement about a positive norm or a state space.
